Quite a way from where you think it leaves us. You see Islam teaches it's adherents that faithful practice will result in mastery over all opponents. This has not been the case for over three hundred years. Indeed, they have fallen further and further behind the west, so moslems have been forced to conclude their practice has been unworthy, or their religion is false. (Their theology has run smack into an irreconcilable difference with reality.) For a religion that executes dissidents, which do you think they've choosen?
To do this, we do need to help establish a relatively sound peace in Palestine, one that moderate muslims can at least accept, if not agree with.
You say the words, but do you know what they mean? What is Israel doings to them that inflames even the moderates? Israel absorbed all the jews fleeing the arab countries. Why do the arab countries refuse to absorb the palestinians? If the arab states are so distressed by the palestinian plight, why are they forcibly denying the same grievances for the Kurds?

I'm not attacking your position. I'm attacking your presumption. Does it make any sense to attempt to explain a quadratic equation to our third grader who keeps insisting "you can't do math with letters!"

papertyger: "Your argument is a cliche! We don't have to apply western rules of fairness when judging muslims! Tell me what you have read! They call America the Great Satan! They are fighting against democracy and human rights, which you obviously have no understanding of!"
smcmike: "You caught me, I am not an expert on the subject. Most Muslims see US support of Isreal as the primary problem in US-Muslim relations. What do you think we should do about this problem?"
papertyger: "I have read lots of books! (a nice reading list though). Therefore, you are a third-grader! Wild, wild mixed metaphor! We are not imperialists! Russia helped found Isreal, and you are a TV-watching idiot for suggesting that it is a sore point in US-Arab relations!"
papertyger: "Islam has problems. The Isrealis have been nothing but accomodating to the Palestinians. I refuse to offer a position of my own because you are too stupid to understand it, you third-grader you."
smcmike: "Um... ok... I was trying to argue killing all the muslims might not the best approach to this problem, and most certainly is not a moral one. Your argument so far has been that you have read lots of books, and that therefore I should be open to the idea that we should kill all the muslims?"
