I bawled when I heard of this on the Garrison show this morning. His dad called and said he put his humvee between two trapped vehicles and fired every round he had before the savages got him.

My hometown. I don't think I knew the guy, though. He was plenty brave.

Brave indeed. Defending a tank from the top of a humvee.

I know desert conditions are hard on weapons, but what is going on when only one gun is working between a BFV and two humvees?

Raymond White studied two years at the New Mexico Military Institute but left before graduating to enlist in the Army.NMMI - Duty, Honor, Achievement. This soldier is an example for all NMMI cadets and alumni.

Brave, yes..surprising, no..in combat, you fight for your buddies, the members of your squad..
It's hard to tell, as the article was very short on details of the action, but it sounds like this fine young soldier merits a posthumus Silver Star, if not a DSC. Small comfort now to his grieving parents, but in later years they will cherish that measure of his courage, devotion, and heroism..
When you see a follow-up story..please post it, and ping me..thanks.

All humanity is of one Author, and is one volume; when one dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated; God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but Gods hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another.

Yes. And I have forwarded this story on to the Superintendent suggesting Spc. White's story be read to the Corps of Cadets.

In the hearts and consciences of their fathers and mothers and generations back and back before them.
