The US will transfer $20M directly to the Palestinian Authority
Israeli News Portal ^ | Nov. 18 2004

Translation from Hebrew to English by me

The Bush Administration is planning, as part of its tries to restart the peace process in the region, to transfer aid at the amount of 20 million dollar directly to the Palestinian Authority. Sources in the administration have said that committees in Congress have already received the message about this plan, and in the coming first meeting of the Sec. of State, Collin Powell, with officals in the Palestinian Authority this step will be announced.

IMHO this is a big mistake. Let them get the $$ from Arafat's estate so they can use it for its intended purpose.

That should take care of Suha Imsofat for about a year.

SUUUUHHHHHAAAAAAA - what a f'in waste - they shouldn't give them a SINGLE dime until they sign a treaty that recognizes Israel's right to exist, in addition to putting all their little terrorists in prison.

It would be more effieient if we just cut out the middleman and started kiling the Israelis directly.

I'm sorry to sound so harsh in my sarcasm, but why on Earth are we giving this money to Arafat's henchmen?

I have a better idea: how about putting Suha on a diet? That ought to save the PA a cool $20 million right there.

GUH! Why we're giving those terrorists money right after they got access to Arafat's stolen billions is beyond me.

in addition to putting all their little terrorists in prison.

They will never do that. The Palestinian Authority is a terrorist regime. They haven't even banned Hamas or any other groups seen as terrorist.

Regardless of what being a "Palestinian" meant in the past, it now means a large disposessed standing army and their families that have been subjected to four decades of hardline nazilike anti-jewish brainwashing in print media, television, radio, word of mouth until they are stark raving mad. Arafat bred this by design by having his opponents murdered over the years, and he had this standing army on the ramparts of Israel ready to strike. An equitable agreement with that Palestinian population may occur in the future, but can never happen now given the anti jewish sentiment. Arafat was much more like Joseph Goebles than that Adolph guy.

Excellent. I haven't been able to sleep wondering how Suha would make it through 2005. Now I feel better.

And to those complaining about the money, lighten up. The palestinian state envisioned by Oslo was expected to cost 20-25 billion, largely from the US. My guess, the cost has gone up, this is hardly worth fretting about.

The foreign aid to the Palestinians is almost solely, if not completely, humanitarian, and was going to help the Palestinian people directly in terms of their basic needs.

Not true. Actually a significant amount, including aid from Israel, went for political "organization" and arming and training the "police force". I'd agree that $20 million is an insignificant, small step.

The foreign aid to the Palestinians is almost solely, if not completely, humanitarian, and was going to help the Palestinian people directly in terms of their basic needs.

Not this aid. This is being sent to the Palestinian Authority directly. They use money to fund terrorism.

Let's let these "moderates" have some rope and see if they're really willing to be responsible with it

We already have enough evidence about all these "moderates" that shows they support terrorism and the destruction of Israel. The Palestinian Authority controls almost all of Gaza and much of the "West Bank" and you can see what that has brought - more terrorism.

Even if the leader is gone now, Arafat, you shouldn't deal with the regime which the leader led. Just like the US won't deal with the Taliban after Mullah Omar is gone, or just like the US would have not delt with the Baathist regime in Iraq if Saddam was gone before the Iraq war.

We can always pull back. I don't see a problem with this relatively small initial step.

There have been enough steps since the 1990s. You can't deal with the PLO, and this has been proven. And many Israelis have lost their lives because of this.

We can always pull back

Sadly, I forsee this as a start for another "peace" intiative which will bring nothing but tragedy.

The leaders must all have girl friends.

Since you ask, here's where $66,000 of our money went. I agree, it would have been rude to ack the chick for the money, especially since the US is picking up the tab.

http://www.intelligence.org.il/eng/sib/9_04/araf_ap1.htm

The following document was written on Sheraton Towers ( Heliopolis, Cairo) hotel stationery and sent to Arafat from fax number 2022658490 on April 19, 2001.

Translation

“The woman I recently visited in Saudi Arabia asked me about pictures by a well-known French artist who did [oil?] paintings of Mecca and Medina in 1812. I managed to find them (the pictures) at a relatively tiny price: two pictures, each at $33,000. I request that the sum be transferred so that I can buy them (the pictures) as a present, since it would not be polite to ask her for the money. Because of the personal nature of the subject, I would like to send them to her personally through the [Saudi Arabian] embassy in Paris. Please note, that when I visited her I did not bring her a present because she was not allowed to take anything out of Palestine.”

Arafat added the handwritten note at the top of the letter:

Ministry of Finance, Ramallah

The (price of the) two pictures should be paid – 66 thousand dollars

Arafat groomed no one to replace himself. He kept control of billions of $, which he felt kept him in power, since he controlled the purse strings. He was so paranoid, he took to his grave the access to those $ billions.

If we all agree Arafat took the secret of his billions to his grave, you have to accept that while we don't know how to access those billions, whoever is holding the deposits sure know all about them. That money didn't vanish into thin air.

They want to be taken seriously, than let's give them a little rope, but just enough for them to hang themselves. We can always pull back. I don't see a problem with this relatively small initial step.

You exhibit great wisdom.

As an expression of good faith, designed to test the other side's faith, this is an appropriate first step. In the total scheme of foreign aid, $20 mill isn't what you'd call "serious money". More like an ante...

And so continues the cycle. Give me money, we make peace. Oops. Someone went and blew themselves up on an Israeli bus. We tried to stop them but we just don't have enough money. Can you send more. The U.S. sends more. A restaurant is bombed. More please, we almost have this fanatics under control. The U.S. sends more...

How about this for a change. Mr. Palestinian. If you go one year without any acts of violence by anyone against any Israeli targets, then we give you some redevelopment money. But each time one of your people blows themselves up in a crowd, the clock starts ticking again and you have to wait another full year.

How stupid can people (our government) be with other people's (our) money?
