Limbaugh, Hannity Protest Racist Attacks on Rice

Led by the nation's number one radio host Rush Limbaugh, America's conservative talkers blasted a series of cartoons on Wednesday that used racist stereotypes to attack Secretary of State nominee Dr. Condoleezza Rice.

"You have to see these [cartoons] to appreciate the pure racism, bigotry, and grotesqueness, as well as the prejudice that's involved," Limbaugh fumed, referring to caricatures of Dr. Rice that have appeared recently in the Washington Post and New York Times.

In one Pat Oliphant cartoon carried by the Post, Rice is drawn as a parrot with thick protruding lips and buck teeth, echoing her boss in subservient tones. In a Jeff Danziger cartoon from last fall, Rice is shown as "Gone With The Wind" star Butterfly McQueen, nursing aluminum tubes instead of a baby as she says in an Amos n' Andy accent: "I Knows All About Aluminum Tubes."

Danizger is syndicated by the New York Times.

A third cartoon from a recent Gary Trudeau "Doonesbury" strip has President Bush admonishing Dr. Rice with the words, "Careful, Brown Sugar."

"If the truth be known here," Limbaugh told his audience, "J. William Fulbright and the Dixiecrats from the Old South who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 have come back to life, and they live and breathe in the Washington Post editorial page as a cartoon. They live and breathe in the panels of Doonesbury. They live and breathe at editorial pages of the New York Times . . . . and wherever else Condoleezza Rice is being besmirched and impugned today."

ABC Radio host Sean Hannity, who has interviewed Dr. Rice on numerous occasions, echoed the same themes during his broadcast, calling the racist depictions of the senior Bush official "disgraceful and disgusting."

In New York, WABC Radio host Mark Levin opened the phones to self described liberals after blasting the anti-Rice cartoons. Most claimed to believe that the drawings were not racist.

The NAACP, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton and most of the rest of the civil rights establishment have yet to comment on the anti-black cartoons.

The "BrownSugar" comment is mocking Bush's propensity to label people with nicknames. He actually refers to Rove as "turd blossom"

My wife and I are active in square dancing. A few year ago there was a Saturday Night Live episode with a Patrick Swayze skit "Dirty Square Dancing." Folks wrote to the national square dance pub wanting to boycott and protest. Ann wrote to the same pub saying that Saturday Night Live skits are often sophomoric and in bad taste but they are just humor.

How are these political cartoons different? We are seeing racism in attacks on Condi Rice. She is a big girl and will weather these. She will honor the office first held by Thomas Jefferson. She will properly fill the office that is 5th in line of succession to the presidency. That is what we need to focus on. She is one of the most qualified nominees to Sec State in many years. Let us sing that song.

I'm officially losing my ability to communicate. Yesterday I could not find the words to express my disgust at the flap over the Marine who shot the terrorist in the mosque and now today there are these horrible racist cartoons. I guess I just let Rush do my talking for me since all I want to do is grab people by the collars and yell. I want to grab these libs and tie them in a knot like a maraschino cherry stem. Have a nice night.

It's unlikely that Dr. Rice will pay much attention to those who mock and slander her.

It's far more likely that she would pity them for their intellectual deficiencies, outright ignorance, and lack of class.

I couldn't conceive of anything that would make me sympathetic to Bush's choice of Rice for SECSTATE...

Until now.

Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and all those racist hustlers are puppets for the CommuNazis party.

"all I want to do is grab people by the collars and yell."

Yeah, me too. Yesterday I drove hubby from the living room yelling about the Marine. Tonight I tried to watch Hannity and Colmbs, but I ended up doing as much yelling as the "big media screaming faces" on the TV.

So, I gave up and watched "Sensible Chic" on HGTV. It's really a great show!

Over the weekend I will compose my poison pen letter to NBC, ABC, et al. You can't call, and I don't trust their website e-mails.

"Now, nothing aginst you personally Jim, but I think a lot of men are not understanding this cartoon"

What does being male have to do with it?

I listen to black talk radio sometimes to get the opinions and thoday they were leading off with the statement that "She is just not qualified." Just amazing. In their eyes a black person voting republican is the worst kind of voter.

I think the portrayals are racist. I think the fact that they are coming from Liberal media is great and in fact I hope they just keep putting them out. Apparently they haven't figured out that when you are standing in a hole, quit digging. Me, I hope they keep on heading to China.

This cartoons are racist. Apparently, an intelligent, black, and conservative woman can only be a puppet for "The Man". If you're black, you can only be a democrat. The author of the cartoon is trying to convey to black people, that a black person with conservative views is just a puppet. That is seriously racist and patronizing.

Al "big mouth" and Jesse "shake down" will not attack leftist racists. That will be too principled for them.

One thing about the Oliphant cartoon that bothers me which I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: It's badly drawn. The caricature of Bush doesn't look much like him at all. At first, I thought it was supposed to be Tom Daschle and I had no idea what was supposed to be going on.

So the guy is a hack on a couple of levels.

Well, if they get there, they'll fit right in. Though at the rate they're going, I wouldn't be surprised if even China was too free for their tastes.

I hope these cartoonists got a commission for handing these bozos an Issue that would "read" to the Dems and rally the faithful.

What a bunch of limpwristed ninnies ... I don't know which is worse, Big Boys crying over stupid cartoons or Big Girls deciding maybe the strictures they applied to themselves as "Real Men" in the '90's no longer apply now that DeLay's getting strung up on the fine print of CFR his President signed into law.

Should cost the demotrolls multiple thousands of future votes..
They need to be made to EAT those cartoons..

Let's see. Black people vote for democrats by 85% or so. Doesn't matter who the damnocrat is, they vote for him/her.
So, since Condi is working for the U.S. President, as Secretary of State, representing the U.S. to the World, and since this is a republican administration, her accomplishments are naught!
She simply does not count.
Only philanderers like Jesse Jackson or Liars like Al Sharpton or Bigots like Mfume or Baldwin count.
And the rest of America is supposed to care about Black People? Why?
What have Black people done for me lately?

I have been thinking about an effective way for showing our support for Dr. Rice, and our condemnation of the Washington Post and New York Slimes. I believe that we should contact CORE (Congress of Racial Equality, a Black Conservative political organization) and do a joint protest of those newspapers. Unfortunately, I live on the west coast, making it impractical for me to participate.

I don't recall any comments from the left about Colin Powell being black. It is interesting that the left who says they want the betterment of blacks degrade the blacks that have actually made remarkable achievements. It is only the blacks who have made achievements on their own that are called the Uncle Toms. The real Uncle Toms are those who pander to the left as their only source of power.
