Robert Novak: CIA – 'Dysfunctional' and 'Rogue'
Town Hall ^ | November 18, 2004 | Robert Novak [Creators Syndicate]

Posted on 11/17/2004 10:05:54 PM PST by quidnunc

After President Bush nominated him to be Director of Central Intelligence (DCI), Rep. Porter Goss walked across the Capitol to meet with a senator he hardly knew and who had criticized him: John McCain. There he received advice confirming his determination to take a course that soon became the talk of Washington.

McCain told Goss the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is "a dysfunctional organization. It has to be cleaned out." That is, the CIA does not perform its missions. McCain told Goss that as DCI, he must get rid of the old boys and bring in a new team at Langley. Moreover, McCain told me this week, "with CIA leaks intended to harm the re-election campaign of the president of the United States, it is not only dysfunctional but a rogue organization."

Following a mandate from the president for what McCain advised, Goss is cleaning house. The reaction from the old boys confirms those harsh adjectives of "dysfunctional" and "rogue." The nation's capital has become an echo chamber of anti-Goss invective with CIA officials painting a picture for selected reporters of a lightweight House member from Florida, a mere case officer at the CIA long ago, provoking high-level resignations and dismantling a great intelligence service.

Veteran CIA-watchers such as McCain regard the Agency as anything but great and commend Goss for taking courageous steps that previous DCIs avoided. George Friedman, head of the Stratfor private intelligence service, refers to Goss's housecleaning as "long overdue."

At last--the administration is getting to the root of the problem. This rogue agency was one of the causes of 9-11.

About time! Next and parallel comes the State Dept.
Another cess pool.
There are lots of things I disagree with Bush on, but cleaning up the CIA and, hopefully, State will redeem many of his faults....
As a student of history, I know that greatest is often tainted. Bismarck created a great nation, but none could fill his shoes and he left a constitution that provided only for great Chancellors. Churchill was cast aside after the war as a spent condom. Yet, DeGaulle continued in his pompousness for decades.
My hopes are with Bush...

There's a new sheriff in town. It's time to clean house and replace the dysfunctional bureaucrats with intense patriotic warriors. One dedicated warrior like Tommy Franks or Ollie North gets as much real work done as ten ivy-league careerists.

In my only direct experience at the State Dept. (work related) I had to deal with a complete flaming queen. And this was in the days before being "out" had become pc.

But from being in the building, and working in downtown D.C., I got the impression that the place was crawling with them.

The place needs an enema. No, strike that, they'd enjoy that. The place needs a million psi flush.

The last president to exercise this much power over the Washington elite was John F. Kennedy.

The MSM is joining in the screaming chorus, because their favorite anti-Bush leakers are getting axed.

The Nancy-boys at State must be quivering with fear this week, with no-nonsense Rice coming over with her broom!

The CIA did not "cause" 9/11. To say so is patently unfair.

They did not have sufficient intelligence with the radical Arab community in order to detect this planning.

That is a fairer statement.

The Clinton administration directed its agencies to give preferential hiring considerations to openly gay homosexuals and to blacks.

Free Republic posted quite a few of these articles at the time.

This trend accelerated in the second Clinton administration.

Simply move them all from metro DC to Nashville...Illinois,
then accept the resignations with regret.
