Reports Point to Proof of Global Warming
Associated Press ^ | 11/15/2004 | MATT CRENSON

Politicians in the nation's capital have been reluctant to set limits on the carbon dioxide pollution that is expected to warm the planet by 4 to 7 degrees Fahrenheit during the next century, citing uncertainty about the severity of the threat. But that uncertainty may have shrunk somewhat with the release last week of two scientific reports suggesting that global warming is not just a hypothetical possibility, but a real phenomenon that has already started transforming especially sensitive parts of the globe.

Overall, the reports say, Earth's climate has warmed by about 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1900. In the Arctic, where a number of processes amplify the warming effects of carbon dioxide, most regions have experienced a temperature rise of 4 to 7 degrees in the last 50 years.

An amusing excerpt from the end of the article:
In some cases, people whose elders taught them decades ago how to forecast storms from wind patterns and cloud formations have lost their predictive abilities to new weather patterns.

So, because the natives in Alaska aren't getting the weather forcast right, this proves that man-made global warming will kill us all within my lifetime!

1 degree in 104 years.

And the only thing indicating the 4-7 degree increase in the next century is...the usual computer models. So much for "proof."

The fact is, the whole solar system is warming up, and there's not a thing we can do to speed it up or slow it down.

(Funny how these people who have been keeping records of temps for what?...a few hundred years out of how many million...can declare a trend based on 1900 to the present.)

There was, during the Middle Ages, a 'global warming' temp moved up 6 degrees world wide, then moved back down. This was obviously the fault of the Republican Regime.

Of course, if Bush really wanted to create a lasting environmental legacy, he would NOT sign the Kyoto pact, which will do nothing to stop GW even if the apocalytics were correct (fat chance), but to increase our use of nuclear power to generate near 100 percent of our electricity. (In the name of preventing a global warming catastrophe, of course)The result would drop the price of oil to the islamics, fix the balance of payments, render us invulnerable to any blackmail on their part and give us the cleanest air of any country in the world.

You know you're getting old when you remember all the years the experts had proof positive on global cooling.

I would really like to see the data and methodology behind the conclusion that arctic regions have warmed up 4-7 degrees in the last 50 years. I would bet that the hard evidence for this 4-7 degrees is very weak. It's quite a coincidence that the greatest "warming" is supposedly happening in the arctic regions where very few people live and there's almost no historical temperature data. There's no scientific consensus among climatology experts that global warming is actually happening. The consensus is among non-expert scientists who are getting most of their information from the news media.

The Scientists from NASA were laying it on McCain and his Senate Sub Committee pretty hard yesterday....

They thought something had to be done right now.....

They just want funding to continue their studies ....
