If ABC hoped to generate a little bit more buzz for "Monday Night Football" and Desperate Housewives, its steamy intro to the Dallas-Philadelphia game sure did the trick.
Two days after the network aired the segment featuring Eagles star receiver Terrell Owens and actress Nicollette Sheridan, coaches and players were still talking about it.
Reaction ranged from amusement to anger. Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy found it racially offensive.
"To me that's the first thing I thought of as an African-American," Dungy said Wednesday. "I think it's stereotypical in looking at the players, and on the heels of the Kobe Bryant incident I think it's very insensitive. I don't think that they would have had Bill Parcells or Andy Reid or one of the owners involved in that," he added, a reference to the coaches in the game.

Aside from that, regardless of how Nicolette Sheridan looks, aren't we supposed to be colorblind? You mean the only reason a black man would like Catherine Zeta-Jones is because of a stereotype, not because she's drop-dead gorgeous? And a white man only has an interest in Viveca A. Fox because it breaks a taboo, not because she's drop-dead gorgeous?
I actually thought it would be most offensive to African American women.
I think it's just another 'gotcha', just like the Janet Jackson Super Bowl flap. I expect more of this, personally.

It was just offensive. In a day and age when inter-racial marriage is somewhat perfectly accepted, Dungy is nuts and over-sensitive.
By the way, everyone knows the (black) wide receivers are always the last to get out of the locker room.....putting that stickem goop all over on their fingers.

I thought the ad was absolutely unnecessary. MNF has gotten way to "glitzy" and "Show-biz" oriented, so I only turn the game on at about 9:08 . . . kickoff time. I skip all their pre-game crap, just as I now boycott the ESPN pre-game stuff.
