Martin dismisses Parrish from caucus
Last Updated Thu, 18 Nov 2004 14:05:21 EST
OTTAWA - Renegade Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish has been dismissed from caucus, the Prime Minister announced Thursday.
Martin told reporters while he's defended the controversial MP's right to speak, he "can't tolerate behaviour that demeans and disrespects others."
The move comes after a controversial interview in which she said she has no loyalty to Martin and "wouldn't shed a tear" if her party leader was defeated in the next election.
Parrish's ouster could cause problems for the Liberals, who hold a slim minority in the House of Commons where every vote counts.
Parrish, who represents the constituency of Mississauga-Erindale, is known for her outspoken remarks about Americans and U.S. President George W. Bush.
In the latest controversy, Parrish is featured on a skit in CBC-TV's This Hour Has 22 Minutes, showing her stomping on a Bush action figure.
The skit was filmed as Bush's office announced he would make a state visit to Ottawa later this month.
But what sparked rumours of her possible ouster was an interview she gave to the Canadian Press Wednesday. The former school teacher said she had no regrets over her behaviour and won't be silenced by Martin.
"Every time he gets up and reprimands me, be it ever so gentle, it just feeds it and he looks like he can't control me, which he can't," she said.
Parrish said she had "absolutely no loyalty to this team. None."
She added of Martin: "If he loses the next election and he has to resign, I wouldn't shed a tear over it."
In the past, Parrish has called Americans "bastards" and mocked the U.S. plans for a missile defence shield by calling countries that sign on to the plan a "coalition of idiots."

Well jeeze, the headline just changed from what I saw earlier. Apologies!
It was just announced live by Prime Minister Paul Martin on CBC Newsworld. It will be posted momentarily.

She will just be replaced by another childish liberal blowhard who hates America. They should just keep her.
That is great...that liberal Canadian pig.
yahooooooooooooooooo
Wonderful news. We may now look forward to a lengthy rant by Ms. Parrish.
Or, perhaps she will opt to self-immolate on the White House lawn.
Beat me to it!

OOPS, LOL.
BTW has Mr Martin ever considered plastic surgery? He looks a LOT like Chirac.
"The end of free speech in Canada" per Air America...
According to the article she was fired for remarks she gave about Paul Martin not because of the doll stunt she pulled the other day.
Wow. (I can't get the link to load, but...)
If true, this is hip.
She is one angry-lookin' woman. Ewww.
Ummm...she wasn't ejected, in whole, becasue of her anti-Bush remarks and doll-stompin'; she was ejected because of her remarks about the Liberal Party and the PM.
