Despite widespread criticism, morning talk radio host John Sylvester, or Sly as he's known to listeners, says he is not apologizing for using racial insults against two officials in the Bush administration.
Sylvester said in an interview Thursday that he called Condoleezza Rice, Bush's national security adviser and secretary of state nominee, "an Aunt Jemima" because "her price of admission to the White House is being subservient."
Sylvester also called Secretary of State Colin Powell an "Uncle Tom" Wednesday on WTDY/AM 1670. He criticized Powell as bending to the will of Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
"I know some people may not like the term Aunt Jemima, but really some of my black callers had used it long before I did, referring to her," Sylvester said.
But the Urban League of Greater Madison said in a release that it was "deeply disturbed" by Sylvester's remarks, and called on him to apologize "for using the basest form of racial derision to highlight a political viewpoint."
U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., a friend of Sylvester's, also issued a statement, saying that he joined "all Wisconsinites" in rejecting the remarks.

And yet the Old Media tells us repeatedly that it is only conservatives who are racist.
Of course, they also told us that it was conseravatives who are homophobic, even when Edwards and Kerry purposely used a candidates' daughter's sexuality agsinst the candidate in a thinly disguised, homophobic, political cheap stunt.
Many radios don't even have that on their dial. You can drive through most areas of the country and that frequency will give you traffic information.
I wonder if a radio station whose Motto is "Progressive Talk Radio"---WTDY 1670 in Madison Wisconsin is going to stand by and support a racist remark on their so called progressive radio station?

The funny thing is, is that WTDY only became "progressive" a few months ago. It used to be that from 12-5pm they would play Bill OR followed by Hannity. Then suddenly both those timeslots were filled by Ed Schultz. I was very dissapointed. Now you can't hear Hannity or Oreilly on the air in madison. I suspect there listenership has gone way down since.
John Sylvester is not only a racist, he is a sexist and a yahoo anti-intellectual as well.
No redeeming social graces at all. And this would NOT be the first time he has been kicked off the air for offensive speech. He was dismissed from a local college's radio programming schedule some years back for going against "community standards".
He styles himself a "libertarian", which seems, in his case, to be another word for anarchist. He gives both anarchists and libertarians a bad name (if that is possible).
The only person I have heard use the "N" word on network television in the last 40 years is Democrat Senator and former Klansman Robert Byrd from W. Virginia. Ant that was fairly recently.
Liberals like this guy generally think of Blacks as sort of retarded children, needing fulltime government babysitting. The exceptions are the Uncle Toms who think theyre white. The audacity!!
bump
If Mr. Sylvester wouldn't call, say, Madeleine Albright "Aunt Jemima," then what can it possibly be but racist?
There will be no repercussions in Madison. Madison is crazy, insane liberal. Any attack is worthy if it is launched against a Republican.

its only racism if its against democrat minorities.
Has anyone heard whether a note was emailed to the FCC? A low-level investigation might strighten this cracker out.

this reality has to say something about these groups that claim to protect minorities.
i guess it says that they really dont care about racism, they just use racism in order to help them advance their political ideologies.
