Ok, rule of thumb: Any hobby where one of your your most experienced members is all of 32 years old is probably a hobby to avoid.
I did this ONCE, off of a bridge over the Pecos River in Texas. It is at the very limit of the height that it can "safely" be done. I did 77 static line jumps and 36 HALO jumps in the Army, none of them were like this.
They don't last that long. One of the real fun things to cotemplate is what happens if you don't get far enough away from the tower and your chute opens against it.
