Could someone please tell me what “uxorious” means? I feel like I’m reading another Rick Atkinson book!

uxorious:

Foolishly fond of or submissive to your wife.

Seems out of context to me. Of course this is Dowd, so it isn't going to make sense anyway.

LOL.

I was going to post, "Who else had to go look this word up?"

Main Entry: ux·o·ri·ous

Pronunciation: "&k-'sOr-E-&s, -'sor-; "&g-'zOr-, -'zor-

Function: adjective

Etymology: Latin uxorius uxorious, uxorial, from uxor wife : excessively fond of or submissive to a wife

- ux·o·ri·ous·ly adverb

- ux·o·ri·ous·ness noun

Sorry, I don't get it. Excessively fond or submissive to a wife?

Wow. Oh well. They say if you don't learn something everyday, your life is over.

As loser Maureen used the word here, she's referring to gay marriage.

But would someone enlighten me as to why John Effing Kerry-Heinz is described as "Brahmin"? That refers to the Hindu priestly caste, as I recall. Didn't know that Kerry was also an Indian. :-)

"...a chesty President Bush and Dick Cheney prevailing by making the case that they could protect America from vicious terrorists and uxorious gays better than the Brahmin they painted as a sissy."

Uxorious
