EXELAND, Wis. - Five people are dead and three injured in a shooting incident that apparently began over a hunting dispute in western Wisconsin.
The confrontation began around noon in a rural area southwestern Sawyer County. Authorities said a hunting party returning to their deer shack reported seeing a hunter unknown to them occupying their tree stand. That led to a shooting.
One of the shooting victims used a walkie talkie to radio back to the deer shack for help. When the victim's hunting partners came to the scene, they were also shot.
Sawyer County was in a virtual lockdown as authorities searched for the gunman. One suspect was eventually taken into custody around 5:15 p.m.
The suspect's name has not been released.
Officials at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake said they have treated at least three gunshot victims. They said one of the victims was transported to a hospital in Marshfield, WI. Another victim is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery. The third victim is in fair condition in the intensive care unit.
I'm willing to bet this fellow was berzerk long before entering the woods today.
Look for liberal calls to ban deadly "Sniper Rifles".
I'd say that's a safe bet.
Ten bucks says that by tomorrow morning the story will be that he opened fire because he felt victimized and threatened by the racism of those Wisconsin yokels.

A ban on just hunting rifles isn't enough. We better ban camo, duck shoes, and thermos mugs too. Caffeine might have played a role here.

The initial reports were that he used an "automatic assault rifle." This later got changed to a "semi-automatic assault rifle," then an "SKS assault rifle."

Apparently the man was driven mad by the sheer pandering idiocy of John Kerry's "Can I get me a huntin' license" in the closing days of the campaign.
What reporters know about any rifle wouldn't fill an empty shell casing.

Nope. That's just what the local news is reporting. He's been arrested, he's in custody, and the Sawyer county sheriff has identified him on-air as being a Hmong man from the twin cities. No other information on his identity at this point.
