UN Out of US, Petition Drive Says
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 11/22/04 | Susan Jones

(CNSNews.com) - A conservative group has launched an effort to kick the United Nations out of the United States.

Evidence of corruption at the U.N. and its failure to support the U.S. war on terrorism prompted the group Move America Forward to launch a petition drive, which it is advertising in a new TV commercial.

Move America Forward describes the United Nations as an organization that is impeding freedom for the long-suffering people of Iraq and blocking eradication of the world's terrorist threats.

"The recent revelations about the U.N. Oil-for-Food scandal are the final straws in making the case against the U.N.," said Howard Kaloogian, the founder of Move America Forward.

"The U.S. government is resolved to take action against nations that harbor terrorists or organizations which provide financial aid or in-kind assistance to terrorists. Why then does our nation play host to, and harbor, the United Nations when recent evidence implicates the U.N.'s role in providing assistance to terrorists such as Yasser Arafat and Saddam Hussein?" Kaloogian asked.

The petition, which is directed to U.S. and U.N. leaders, criticizes the UN for becoming "a safe harbor, apologist and defender of terrorist organizations and their agents." The 60-second television commercial notes, "We tell other countries not to harbor organizations that support terrorists; why then do we harbor the U.N. here in America?"

The effort to "get the U.N. out of the U.S." has generated an "overwhelming" response, Move America Forward said.

"I have never seen such a vigorous response to any grassroots effort like there's been to this effort to take serious steps to sanction the U.N. for it's coddling of terrorists and terrorist-supporting regimes," said Melanie Morgan, a San Francisco talk radio host and vice chair of Move America Forward.

"We need drastic change right away, and that begins with getting the U.N. out of this country and all the terrorist-sympathizing U.N. agents out of here immediately. Then we need to re-examine the amount of money that we provide the UN. Americans pay too much to the U.N. for the treatment we receive," Morgan said.

Move America Forward, based in Sacramento, describes itself as a "non-partisan, not-for-profit organization committed to supporting America's efforts to defeat terrorism and supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces."

The group has produced and broadcast more than a dozen national television commercials supporting the war against terrorism and American troops.

As much as I dislike the U.N. and want them kicked out, the old saying, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." keeps on popping into my head.

I sort of like having the UN meeting here just because we can keep an eye on them better.

The day the U.N. asks for a change in venue, is the day we start gearing up for a war...

As long as the U.S. remains in the U.N., it's not a bad idea if U.N. headquarters remains in New York. It's likely that we know quite a bit about what goes on in that place, which might not be the case if the U.N. moved to, say, Paris or Zurich or Brussels.

A better idea would be for the U.S. to sponsor the formation of a new global deliberative body with membership open only to demonstrably democratic nations. Let the U.N. continue to exist (in New York, where we can keep an eye on it), but let the preponderance of our global diplomatic work proceed through the new body.

I see MadAnthony1776 in post #4 also wants the U.N to stay in New York as long as we're in the U.N.

I signed the petition -- I'd also vote for stopping all payments to the UN until they cooperate with the Congressional investigation into the Oil for Food scandal.

I sort of like having the UN meeting here just because we can keep an eye on them better.

That's why they make surveillance satellites, and that is why we have the NSA monitoring communications, especially from potential enemies like the many maggots infesting the U.N.

I say send the Marines to seize and secure the building, the U.S. Marshalls to take Koffee Anus and his crew into custody, charge them all with conspiracy to defraud the taxpayers of the United States, escort the delegates to the front gate of their respective embassies in Washington with instructions that they have 24 hours to get the fork outta Dodge, and then?

Senator Norm Coleman of Minnesota sets up shop in the FORMER U.N. building to begin pouring over all of those records that I'm sure Koffee Anus will be wishing he had shredded.

That visual just gives me a warm feeling all over.

As a long ago pair of bumper stickers used to say:

"Impeach Earl Warren"

and

"Get US out of the U.N.!"

The day the UN get out of the US and the US get out of the UN is the day the UN will cease to exist. They cannot live without the US paying the cost of that crooked outfit.

The UN is like the ACLU... It once had a purpose, but once a bunch of America hating bigots got control of the organization, they turned it to their own purposes, and private supporters gave them money.

The UN can and will exist on its own without the U.S., and if we let them get too far away, we'll cease to be able to affect them, and we'll end up with a huge mess.

Keep them here so we can keep an eye on the bad guys.

And to the guy who answered proposing signal surveillance and satellite surveillance... That's Clitnon-esque thinking. We need to be inside the organization to keep track of what they're doing. I think one reason for basing them in our country was because we couldn't trust them anywhere else. Meeting in America nags them with a reminder that we are the most powerful nation in the world.

I like the idea of rubbing that in their faces every time they have to come here for a meeting.

I say the Us should stay in the UN. Our seat on the Security Council gives us veto power over whatever silly nonsense the UN morons come up with.
