In the past two weeks, Internet users have downloaded over 4.5 million copies of Firefox, the excellent browser available for free from the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation. Yes, there are hundreds of millions of IE users, but Firefox is gaining fast, and IE is losing market share for the first time in years. The switch to Firefox will happen even faster as more people realize the full power of this browser, much of it provided by computer hobbyists who are scrambling to create a cornucopia of useful add-ons.

Did anyone else notice that you can highlight a word or phrase then with a right click you can search for the phrase on Google? That so rocks!

I've been using Mozilla for 30 months and I never noticed that, but it works!

Excellent! And remember the advice of Emily's "office teenage computer geek"--
( who has since discovered girls, and is rarely seen nowadays... )

"Regular Windows is hover & left-click. Advanced Windows is hover and right-click."

I downloaded it about 2 weeks ago and also ordered the disk. I have to say I was not impressed and I got some errors when it loaded, but I've been having some problems with my computer since I installed my new printer software and Norton 2005 (believe it or not). My system is rather old however.

I'll try to install it again when I get the CD. Has anyone used the mail client (I think it's called Thunderbird)? It comes on the Firefox CD.

I find IE faster than Firefox. So I use IE for my FR browsing and browsing other sites that I know.

I do use Firefox from time to time when doing Google queries to unknown sites.

Sorry. Just can't get worked up over a freakin browser.

gee, i just figured out how to use the tabs, you mean theres even more? nice thing about tabs is i can browse through fr and load up a bunch of threads to read and then go off line and read them, thus not tieing up my phone line for long periods of time. Couldn't do that with IE since the stupid thing would start acting up and not responding if to much was loaded.

I just wish it was a bit more intuitive to navigate around.

Where is the issue?

Do you use the right mouse button?

I have completed the download, I keep getting the same error. Connection refused. Can anyone help? I am sick of IE, and can't wait to try this new browser.

Thanks

My bugmenot says it is still incompatible.

If you are running with Firefox 1.0 you may need the latest version, I think it is now working ....6.1 ...

I believe much of the attacks depend on Active X which Firefox doesn't use! Thus more secure.... improve your security by moving to Linux....

If you install the google toolbar you can do the same with Internet Explorer. You can also highlight a word or phrase and drag and drop it into the google toolbar search box and google will search.

IMPORTANT:
For best results set the google toolbar options to open up search results in a new (Explorer) window

Usually the favorites are imported under 'bookmarks' under the sub-menu of 'imported IE favorites' -- maybe that's just me.

The bookmarks manager allows you to also import the bookmarks (under the file menu, select import)
