Orange County is home ot Leisure World (aka Geezer World) which is a MASSIVE, planned retirement community.

I never followed up on the story. I hope the DA dropped it.

With all due respect, I heartily disagree with your assessment. The perps were parked a few doors down laying in wait. This would constitute premeditation. They used a gun in the crime of robbery, which would pose a clear threat to the life of the victim.
This guy will not be charged, and should receive a mayoral commendation for citizen bravery! (IMO)

It is entirely possible to convict the accomplices of Felony Murder and also convict O'Neal of homicide of one form or another. Felony murder means that they were committing a crime that had a high risk of violence and somebody got killed. That does not presuppose that O'Neal was justified.
