Ugh. Ok. Caveat emptor if you buy non-OEM batteries. If you have an LG, buy the bloody LG battery! Etcettera et al nauseum.

I've thrown dead flashlight batteries into a fire
trying to get them to explode and it never happened.
Not being a chemist, I have no idea the make-up of ni-cad, lithium ion or nickel metel hydryde (?), but I'm willing to bet a catalyst of some sort is needed other than just laying there.
I'll look around for an old ni-cad cell battery and start the woodburner.
