"'We may think we own it, but we really don't'..."
This, my fellow FReepers and citizens, is the comment of an elected official representing not a hamlet in the former Soviet Union or one of its satellites but rather a community in southeastern Wisconsin in 2004.
And worse, the majority of this Board apparently agreed with such misguided sentiment.

There's a certain validity to the rule. If someones property is cleared right to the waters edge, they'll tend to fertilize right to the waters edge. The resulting runoff will cause algae blooms.

What we taught in colege, is that you don't own it until the judge says that you own it. Then you get to pay taxes.

Fascism - government control of private property.
People have been so dumbed down they don't know what fascism is. Every one of these fascists should be tarred and feathered and run out of town. I've had it up to my eyeballs with politicians and bureaucrats telling property owners what they can and can't do with their property. If I owned a newspaper there the headline would be: "Fascists Steal Land Along Lakeshore." Damn pigs.
Waukesha County used to be a conservative stronghold. Soon it will look like liberal Milwaukee.
