I'd never give a dime to UW anyway, the boy scout issue is only the tip of the iceberg. As for Target, I think the charges are a little unfair. They give a lot of money to support charitable causes and I don't think they should be boycotted over the new policy. Target is suffering from the new age of litigation. If they allow the Salvation Army to solicit they may not be allowed to refuse other causes which might offend their customers. Target did not make this new policy specifically for the Salvation Army, but for all groups, political and charitable.

But couldn't Target choose which groups it would accept on its premises, and which ones he would turn off ? It strikes me as real strange that if Target accepts the Salvation Army, it should be deprived of its right to turn down, for example, the Red Crescent or some bizarre cult professing to do charity.

And some give up not firing a shot...

I've read on FR that Target donates quite a bit of money to "gay, lesbian, transgendered etc etc" causes. FYI.

Target is a private business. They may ban any group, or allow any group they choose. Target has tried to explain that they banned the Salvation Army Christmas bellringers because "too many groups were asking to be able to solicit donations." That's garbage. The Salvation Army is probably the oldest and most credible charity out there. The bulk of their donations IS NOT spent on administration and goes directly to aiding people in crisis. AND, they are traditionally associated with the Christmas shopping season. It's an established TRADITION. What the customer relations person won't tell you is that Target has been the target of a concerted smear campaign against the Salvation Army by radical homosexual activists because the Salvation Army is a lone Christian organization which has not buckled under pressure to change its hiring policies and hire openly avowed homosexuals.

Wall-Mart has a sign outside their store here in my area stating that the solicitors are not approved to be there by the store.

Usually the only ones there are a cult all dressed in white and not speaking much English.

I usually ask the guy if he's got a spare cigarette...even though I don't smoke. It always give him a puzzled look...
