(1) AGREE; I Believe a "Moon Base" is an Integral Part of a "Space Infrastructure!" (2) I ABSOLUTELY agree that INDIVIDUALS OUGHT TO BE ABLE to "Stake Claims" on "Unclaimed Solar Real Estate," & MINE Private "Holdings" for (Hopefully Obscene) Profits!!

I Believe that ONLY PRIVATE ENTERPRISE will EVER "Take Us to the Stars!!"

But I STILL BELIEVE that "American Values" MUST BE the "Controlling Factor" when we "Go Out!!"

WE are the ones who had the "GUTS" to "Do It;" OUR VALUES should be the GUIDING CRITERIA for Those who Follow!!

The only possible model for space development is the American state and Federal state. Before the American way the British monarchy was the best, the Tsarist close behind.

I Think that the BASIC Premises of MUCH of our "Science Fiction" are Operative Here--That the Innate Industry of our People will DRIVE the "Exploration of Space."

"NASA" has gotten It Started, but NOW, "The People" must "Carry On!"

Given "Reasonable Access" to the Moon & Beyond, "Human Nature" will "Carry On!!"

Or SO I HUMBLY BELIEVE!!

Access, or lack of access, isn't much of a problem. Granted a man can't pack up his whiskey, gunpowder, and tobacco and set out for the new homestead like he used to; reaching the homestead now would involve a lot of fire and smoke and excitement and a million horses. But there isn't any homestead, no homesite, no gold claim, no property at all out there. The Commons, the Mir, bad idea when looking for private investment. Investment requires collateral, and a deed would do just fine.

A deed from the Land Office would do best of all.

HELL; we had "Deeds" from the "Land Office" 150 years ago; there was a LOT of "Trouble," but we SOMEHOW, "Sorted It Out!!"

There have been FAR WORSE PRECEDENTS!!

So your Grandchild has the Deed for an Aluminum Mine on the Moon---WHY NOT???

There are problems because the issue of private property is not clarified. The Mining Law of 1870 was an attempt to fix things, but it was a mess, and still is. Something like 1% of Alaska is in private ownership, various degrees of gov't and corporate ownership pertaining to the rest. It won't be any neater in outer space. We could do it right.

The Saturn V was the only U.S. rocket system to function with 100% success rate. No other operational rocket system in U.S. history has ever worked every time it was launched.

Also, the Saturn V produces the loudest man made noise in history surpassed by only a nuclear detonation.

"Not two men. Not two landings. Not a permanent presence. Mission accomplished."

Ahhh, we went several times even took a little car and drove it about and each time TWO men walked on the moon at the same time.

Better brush up on your history a bit.

Here's a good site that debunks all of the moon hoax psuedo-science:

MoonHoax

I've found that with all moon hoax believers, that there is a kernel of irrationality that led them to believe the moon hoax nonsense in the first place, so to refute the nonsense with facts usually isn't adequate, they always pull another hair-brained theory out of a hat as soon as you debunk each of their bogus theories.

OF COURSE there will be "Disputes" about "Mining Rights" on Varying Patches of the Moon----That's What "Saloons" are for!!

In the "Old West," LOTS of "Property Rights" were Decided in Gambling Halls!

If we "Do It Right," we'll have a "Wild West" situation on the Moon!!

WHAT FUN!!

"Private Mining Rights" on the Moon--or on an Asteroid-- is Likely to "Trigger" an EXPLOSION of Profitable Mineral Wealth UNPRECEDENTED in Recorded History!!

Two Generations of "Dreamers" have Lived--& Some Have Died--to Give Us the Culmination of WHAT WE NOW SEE; We can GET to The Moon & The Asteroids, WHY have we LOST our DREAM??

WHY have we FORGOTTEN the "Promise of APOLLO 11??" WHY have we LOST the "DREAM" we Briefly Lived those Few SPECIAL YEARS when we WENT TO THE MOON???

It's Possible that the "Special Drive" that "Drove US to the Moon" is "CYCLICAL;"--That we ONLY rxperience "Such a Special Passion" "Every Few Years!!"

As REMOTE as THAT POSSIBILITY IS----SO BE IT!!

The FACT IS, that an UNPRECEDENTED ACCRETION of Hundreds of VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE OCCURRED when America was Trying to "Go to the Moon!"

SOMETHING SPECIAL HAPPENED; the "RIGHT PEOPLE" gathered together & a "Trip to the Moon" occurred!! But That "Set of Conditions" needs to be Repeated "Over & Over Again;"--we NEED to go BACK to the Moon--& BEYOND--"Over & OVER AGAIN!!"

Do you happen to know the origin of the name 'America'? Did Waldseemuller get it from Vespucci? Is it a very ancient name even before Columbus' voyage?

Do we really need to wait 4 to 7 years to get this thing going?

I work with a guy who used to work at NASA in Houston (although not in the Engineering/Scientific side). From the stories he tells me of the waste, fraud and abuse you'd expect in a governmental agency this old, NASA will be lucky to get this off the ground at all.

Hope they can rebuild the set in time.

I'm still trying to figure out how much fuel was necessary to lift the lander and accelerate to 4KMPH+ to leave the moon.

Of course, given the advances in optics and imaging technology, "hi-res" from the '60s would barely pass muster today.

Ther's a photo lab here in Nashville that has a technician who was involved in the photography; he maintains no currently available lenses are better than those used then.

"I think the blue prints for the Saturn V rocket where destroyed." - demlosers

Destroyed? Highly unlikely. Even if true, we still have three intact Saturn 5's that could be used as "master copies" to build as many as we need. Huntsville, Houston, and KSFC each have one.

I'd love to see one lift off again - though I doubt that would be the platform used for the new program. (Still, I can always hope...) Most people have forgotten just how phenominal the launch of a Saturn V is. Makes the shuttle look downright little.

there is NO NEED for a "Long, Scientific Run-up to a "Moon Landing!!"

The moon is not the goal. Don't be distracted. The run-up itself is the point.

About freakin' time.

The moon wasn't a lark. It was strategic. Still is. If you own the moon, you can change the equations on interplanetary travel.

"Proof that Armstrong, et al., had big brass cohonies: They landed on the Moon with 64K RAM on their main onboard computer. My wristwatch has more memory than that. Whew!-GPZ

And don't forget: The engine burn that allowed Apollo XIII to return to earth from lunar orbit (after the catastrophic fuel cell explosion) was manually timed using an Omega Speedmaster Professional wristwatch! :-)

Speaking of something other than celestial mechanics? We already own the moon anyway, and everything else in the visible universe for that matter.
