Public schools are cultural institutions of enourmous power. That is why bizarre, sicko ideologies are attracted to them. They doubt they can win arguments with adults, but give them a captive audience of a roomful of ten year olds at a time, and they can make plenty of headway.

Our schools are failed and theirs are failed for the same reason. Ours are overrun by communist activists, who at least have to pretend some allegiance to the culture of the kids' parents. Theirs are run by fanatics, who don't listen to anyone.

A big part of the problem in both cases is to get parents to show enough interest and involvement, and to overcome their innate skepticism, that anybody is successfully turning their darlings into worthless piles of human debris. If most parents in either place could see inside their teachers' hearts, understand their real goals, and the future that will bring for their kids, several million teachers would be hanging from the lamposts tomorrow morning.
