I was ambivalent about the choice of Mr. Gonzalez but now I'm sure he's a good pick, after all the Village Voice hates him.
And Guatanamo Bay. .....as if the Geneva Convention applies to terrorists.
And there you have it.
You beat me too it - we should follow the Geneva Convention when the terrorists do. I'm sick of us needing to be "better than that".
Hentoff is a mouse. And any columnist that cites that hideous sow Nina Totenberg automatically loses all credibility with me. My consolation is the emotional agony that they're experiencing, knowing that we inflicted it upon them by voting for Dubya for four more years. If only the defeat of Communism was this bloodless.
Sounds a good man!
The time line is the thing. SCOTUS took its time with this one - deliberately. What Gonzalez did was an overreach, but sometimes in an emergency, overreaching is reasonable - temporarily. And the Geneva Convention does not apply, so that salvo was just shooting blanks.
Liberals...you gotta love 'em.
First, Bush appoints Gonzales. Automatically, to detract from Gonzales being intelligent AND Hispanic, he has to be painted as worse than Ashcroft, a fundamentalist WASP.
I could go on...Condi Rice, Colin Powell, the new Secretary of Commerce...
At least the libs give us great FReepin' fodder!
I'll go along with they should not be held at Gitmo.
They should have not been held anywhere.
They should have been shot on the spot where they were caught.
Nina, Ch.13 "tote bag" Totenberg...
Thank you Village Voice! As an American of Hispanic ancestry, I am beginning to think this guy will make me proud. I would actually be very worry if they were supporting him :-)
Shot on the spot!
LOL!
"renders obsolete Geneva's strict limitations on questioning of enemy prisoners and renders quaint some of its provisions."
Leftists talk as though Gonzales (and all of the Bush administration) dismiss everything about the Geneva Conventions as 'quaint' -- this is a monstrous falsehood perpetrated repeatedly by Hentoff and many others. No one is arguing that the Geneva Conventions should not apply in wars between uniformed armies of signatory nations which strive to fight in accordance with the GCs. The issue is how to treat TERRORISTS who daily spit upon every convention of civilization and morality, not just those sanctified in Geneva. When Gonzales used the word 'quaint' he was clearly referring to the applicability of every last line of the GCs to terrorists who themselves do not recognize or abide by the GCs -- the leftist lunatics would have us providing terrorist prisoners with sports equipment, paying jobs, and chocolate bars instead of treating them as the terrorists they are.........
As it is, Guantanamo sounds like far too much of a tropical rest-camp for these beasts -- I'd have them put in cages dangled over shark tanks, and they could either talk about everything they know of other terrorists and terror plans or else become instant shark food.....
You know, I think I life that better than shot on the spot...it has all of that torture but not quite torture aspect!
If Liberals are screaming thats a good thing!
Yeah, that sounds about right for Zarqawi and his cohorts.
Yep, he's obviously the right man for the job if the left despises him.
I like it, when the left asks for something the Bush administration has the right answer. If you don't like this one, you sure ain't going to like the next one. Sounds like a plan for appointing judges too.
"I'd have them put in cages dangled over shark tanks, and they could either talk about everything they know of other terrorists and terror plans or else become instant shark food....."
I'd feel more sorry for the sharks.
But they'd probably spit the terrorists out.
