Story Photo FIRST ON 13 NEWS: Powerball Millionaire Faces 2nd DUI Charge This Year; Also Accused of Carrying a Weapon Without a License

Record Powerball jackpot winner Jack Whittaker spent Tuesday night in jail after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and carrying a dangerous weapon without a license.

13 News was the first to report the latest arrest of the 57-year-old Scott Depot man.

Whittaker also was charged with failure to maintain control of his vehicle and failure to submit to a Breathalyzer test after he wrecked his Hummer on the West Virginia Turnpike.

The accident occurred about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday after Whittaker passed through the southbound toll booth at the North Beckley exit. Whittaker was alone in the vehicle.

A police report said Whittaker had a small pistol in his left boot and was carrying $117,000 in cash.

Whittaker complained of back pain so he was taken to Raleigh General Hospital. He was treated there and released before being booked into the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver about 1 a.m. The mug shot taken at the jail is above.

The money he was carrying was given to his daughter when she arrived to see him at the hospital.

Whittaker was arraigned Wednesday morning by Magistrate T.H. Wills and released after posting a $1,700 cash bond. No date has been set for his return to court.

This is Whittaker's second DUI arrest this year. He also was arrested on Jan. 25 on a drunken driving charge.

Stay tuned to 13 News for more on this developing story, including the third part of our exclusive report on Whittaker, "Hitting the Jackpot."

What a dope to carry around $117,000 in cash.

Hasn't he ever heard of American Express?

I think he had $100,000 on him last time he was arrested, too. He must have every armed robber in the state looking for him.

It doesn't mention how much he won. It does say it was a record sum. Why couldn't he splurge $2 on a nicer shirt?

What a dumba$$!

Just hire a driver and buy a limo to solve the problem before it becomes one (again)

Money does make people stupid.

You'd be suprized how many loto winners end up just as poor as they were before, and on dialysis. Some people just weren't meant to have money. This guy looks like he's heading in that direction, or worse, a pine box.

..which would be a dirt road if not for this other West Virginia Jackass.

"Stupid is as stupid does..."

What's the over/under on when Jack makes his last stupid mistake?

I give the guy 24 months, tops. He's going to show off that pretty little boot gun at some bar somewhere and some cop or some "business associate" is going to show him something in a somewhat larger caliber.

Jack likes to pay in cash.

What can we say? He also likes cheap whiskey and strippers too.

Please, not all West Virginians are Jed Clampett wannabee morons like Jack Whittaker. Some of us have real jobs and dont hang out in bars with guns in their boots.

BTW, this is second offense DUI. That means six months in jail and I think a 2 year revocation of his license. Who knows...that might be a good thing.

Getting an involuntary drying-out period might save the man's life. Who knows?

Never said they were. The one autograph in my collection that means the most to me is that of Gen. Chuck Yeager, another Ridge Runner.

He'd hire someone to drive him to the stripper bars.

Hope he can hire somebody to take the bullet for him the first time he gets a snootful and waves that shiny little boot gun around in a bar or near a cop.

It was a little North American Arms 22 mini revolver. I've been told about this gun by people who know him. All that gun is going to do is piss someone off.

Pretty much. A .22 can kill, but the shot has to be precise and at point-blank range, neither of which are likely to happen with a playpretty like that being carried by a drunk.

I need to Google ".45 derringer" - for some reason, I seem to remember one actually being retailed long ago.

There are many 45 derringers.

Try BOND ARMS.

I wouldn't own a derringer on a bet. They're inherently inaccurate. My carry weapon is a Colt 1911A1. (And I don't hang out in bars, especially while packing).
