ABIDJAN, Dec 3 (AFP) - The leader of a group of hard line backers of Ivory Coast President Laurent Gbagbo on Friday called for a "huge march" next week to "demand the French army leave Ivory Coast."
"In memory of our comrades who fell under the bullets of the French army and to give moral support to the many wounded who are still in hospital, we call for a huge, peaceful march on December 11 at the Place de la Republique," said Charles Ble Goude, head of the Young Patriots, at a press conference.
The aim of the march would be to "demand that the French army leave Ivory Coast because it can no longer call itself an impartial force" in the conflict that has riven the former French west African colony for more than two years.

I wonder, how many unarmed protesters the French will kill this time.

The French are tough enough to shoot at unarmed civvies.
When bullets start flying back in the other direction, we'll see their resolve.

Have any of the usual leftist groups filed war crimes charges in the Hague against Chirac the Insignificant and his generals?

'The French responded by attacking Ivory Coast's tiny air force, and wiping it out.'
That's about the scale they can handle.
Why isn't the UN and world opinion generally outraged? Where is their humanitarian indignation...???

Funny quote from a leftie site:
"...the French government is proving slow to learn that subjects of colonialism never desire their subjugation.
Perhaps one can credit France with at least being honest in their choice of name for their elephant colony. In which direction would public opinion go if Bush suddenly re-named Iraq Oil Country?"

Nope, killing "around 20" unarmed civilians passes the global test. If it's France and they wish to control a former colony, with Muslim insurgents.

We should supply the Ivorians and give them airsupport against the French. The French have no qualms in killing unamed civilians, and we know what they will do against a professional soldier.
A remote controlled spotter plane or predator would do the trick.
To: Cutterjohnmhb
These folks should hire a few Germans, dress them in Wehrmacht uniforms, and arm them. Then we'd see what the French are made of...and we'd probably also see many ads for "French rifles in excellent condition - never fired, only dropped once."
To: Cutterjohnmhb
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Amelie and the Femme Nikita seem to have more "balls" than any biological Frenchman.
Tell me again where I can sign on to help fund (read: arm) the Ivorian government against the froggies imperialist war for chocolate.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here. From all the articles I've read they are opposing the Christian government in favor of the Muslim rebels.

Yes the French are opposed to the Government of the Ivory Coast. I have yet to read of them shooting one Muslim insurgent, they are trying to coerce the Government into power sharing with the rebels, whom they support. The Muslims rebels are in the north and central Ivory Coast and along the border with Burkina Faso and Mali, where they find sanctuary. The protesters in this article are aligned with Pres. Laurent Gbagbo. They are called the Young Patriots. Hopefully it's peaceful and the French do not take target practice.
