I have two gardenia bushes right outside my front door (I planted them four years ago when we moved into our home); hence that wonderful perfume fills my home over the festive season.

I also love jasmine but I am not allowed to have too many perfumed plants around as I am asthmatic. Gardenias were the first choice!

How exciting to receive a Christmas card from the White House. What a wonderful keepsake.

Condi looked stunning.

She really is the antidote to Madeline Albright (in so many ways) ;-)

I'm serious. I just didn't post the pics. Tarayzuh showed up impersonating a character from some book named Her Frumpiness.

I have friends who have a jasmine plant outside in a hanging basket. They placed it at the entrance of the walk to their front door, so it's the first thing to hit their visitors as they exit their cars.

I agree, jasmine and gardenias are extra-ordinary. Surely they must have their counterparts in heaven!

I love the photo of the little boy in the cowboy hat and Condi is gorgeous.

I got my Christmas card last week and today I got the RNC calendar and the pictures are wonderful. This is my sixth Christmas card--two are from Texas-- but I never got a calendar before.

You gotta be kidding me ... what the ^%*&*??? Shows you what a lowlife Kerry really is that he would accept this invitation .. so the payoff was supposed to be when W saw Kerry .. that he would be uncomfortable or intimidated and this would give Kerry ... what??? Wow, the depth of their understanding of our Prez by this time and the scope of their immaturity is mindboggling. I'm sorry, but I would really like to see that photo .. is it on yahoo?

from whitehouse.gov:

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, 2004

by the President of the United States of America

a Proclamation.

On a quiet Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, more than 2,400 Americans were killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. On that day, life changed in America, and the course of history was altered forever.

Our citizens reacted to the attack with firm determination to defeat tyranny and secure our Nation. This enterprise required the commitment and effort of our entire country. At the height of the conflict, the United States had ships on every ocean and troops on five continents. In all, more than 16 million Americans wore the uniform of our Nation. They came from all walks of life. They served honorably and fought fiercely. At home, millions more contributed to the war effort, laboring for victory in our factories, on farms, and across America.

Today, we honor those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, and we pay special tribute to the veterans of World War II. These heroes hold a cherished place in our history. Through their courage, sacrifice, and selfless dedication, they saved our country and preserved freedom. As we fight the war on terror, their patriotism continues to inspire a new generation of Americans who have been called to defend the blessings of liberty. Like those who have gone before them throughout our history, our troops fighting the war on terror are defending America from danger and liberating the oppressed.

The Congress, by Public Law 103-308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim December 7, 2004, as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. I encourage all Americans to observe this solemn occasion with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I urge all Federal agencies, interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff this December 7 in honor of those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this sixth day of December, in the year of our Lord two thousand four, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and twenty-ninth.

GEORGE W. BUSH

===========================

God Bless the sacrifices of all the military and their families, in all the wars, who gave so much to protect the people and sovereignty of the United States of America. Be at peace with the Lord.

I couldn't resist a peek at the pictures. Frumpy is right.

Kerry looks okay though surprisingly. The mean and ugly is off his face for now.

Not many photos of Barney lately at the WH site. Maybe it's not a joke and it will only be one a week now.

Thank you for all the pictures esp those of the Army Navy Game. ON the thread linked from here to the live thread about the game, I learned that every time the President was shown on the scoreboard screen, the Army and Navy young heroes cheered IN UNISON, FOUR MORE YEARS!

They love our beloved President perhaps as much (or more) than all the dosers and all the thousands who turned out throughout the campaigns by the tonload.

The reason the Democrats lost is because of the President, his character, the goodness he exudes, and all the qualities which endear him to us and to so many across our nation and across the world. The love of human freedom pours out of this man and we can all rejoice in this gift from God to this nation and to the world. And....to the Army Navy game and to our beloved troops as thier magnificent Commander in Chief!

I watched the First Lady's tour of the WH Christmas decorations on C-SPAN Saturday. Toward the end, the fellow who watches Barney for the President and First Lady when they're travelling brought the dog in. He kind of pointed Barney toward the First Lady, but the dog turned and followed the aide. Maybe due to the campaign and the long absences of the President and First Lady, Barney has become more attached to the aide. I wonder if that might have anything to do with them not taking as many photos lately. Give the dog more time with the first family and less with the aide. Just speculation on my part.

Well we can all take comfort in the fact that this is as close as any of those twits (Beatty, Kerry et al) will get to the White House....EVER! I hope the door didn't hit them too hard on the way out ....

I am an absolute sucker for the sea.

Gretchen, I know what you mean. I live in the beach cities (South Bay) area of Los Angeles County. There is something about the Pacific that is so compelling to me. I just couldn't think of living anywhere other than near the Pacific.

I was born and raised in the NYC metro area, and have to say the Atlantic does not have the same power over me as does the Pacific.

What an honor to be asked to escort W onto the field

One of many for the "First Captain" the highest-ranking cadet in the Corps of Cadets. This year's first captain judging by the badges and medals, could be prior-service enlisted, as straight-from-highschool cadets typically don't have decorations - other than perhaps one qualification badge from second summer courses like airborne and air-assault.
