Breaking: High Rise Fire Chicago 12/06/04

A high rise in the Chicago Loop at 135 S. LaSalle has at least one floor on fire. Live shots show a raging fire through the windows.
This is the LaSalle Bank Building. Began just after 1830h.

Well, SOMEbody on FR knows something about almost anything.
I wish we could find a FR firefighter who could give us a more realistic assessment of what's going on in real time. I didn't usually come in until after everything was out.

My office is less than a mile from the building in question, and I've been living in a highrise on the 36th floor of a different building for the last couple of months.
My brother in Iowa knew all this, but not where. So when he saw the news, he called me to make sure that wasn't where I was...heh...

I was a little kid and it was pretty perplexing to see the cover come off and be told I was looking at a duck. From that angle, it looks more like an orangutan! :-)

Firefighters are on both 29 and 30. Sweeping across both active fire floors. Fire appears to be contained to the SW corner of 30.
It looks like they are winning now.

My mother's in Deerwood Estates on the border of McHenry and Bull Valley. My brother's about 5 minutes away on Glenbrook.
It's funny you're in Indiana. They're moving to Fort Wayne -- my brother in January and my mother following him in February.
