I'm gonna fiddle with that quote a little, and try to clean it up a bit. I think it reads better this way:

I finally did leave the USA this year for a few hours, but that was just to get a better view of it. I was at Niagara Falls, where the best view of the American falls is from the Canadian side. So while I can no longer say I have never left the country, I can say the only time I did leave was to gain a better vantage point from which to view its beauty. I can also say I never left her sight. I love my country.

What do you think?

I have to say that I've left the country twice, but I compare it to me visiting New York:  Went once, didn't like it, went again and determined it was no fluke.  I'll never go again.
