WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Littleton) expressed disappointment with the conference report on the intelligence bill after negotiators on the bill stripped key border security provisions approved by the House of Representatives in October from the bill. Tancredo had been a leader in the effort to retain the provisions recommended by the 9/11 Commission executing a parliamentary maneuver prior to the Thanksgiving recess temporarily thwarting efforts to remove them.
Senate negotiators are today the Grinches that stole Americas security, said Tancredo, But make no mistake, the American people will know which of their Representatives were naughty, and which ones were nice.
Today this congress overwhelmingly approved an empty shell of a bill that will provide far more fodder for politicians press releases than it will security for the public, said Tancredo, It creates the illusion of security, which in some ways is more dangerous than doing nothing at all.
But Tancredo and other House Conservatives did score one victory as a result of their efforts to retain the provisions by exacting a promise from the White House to address border security early next year.
Despite the Senates decision to strip from the conference report sections prohibiting illegal aliens from obtaining Drivers Licenses and prevent the abuse of asylum laws, President Bush signaled his commitment to work with Congress to enact such a prohibition next year. In a letter to Congress last night, Bush wrote, I look forward to working with the Congress early in the next session to address [border security] issues, including improving our asylum laws and standards for issuing driver's licenses.
While I am disappointed that Congress in classic fashion has squandered this golden opportunity, I am encouraged by the Presidents commitment, concluded Tancredo, And I have every intention of making sure he keeps it.
ping
He'd get my vote.
bump
...and he'd get the votes of 75+ million AMERICANS.
I salute them all.
I voted for him in the primary out of protest.
Tom Tancredo for President! Some day, please God.
Last Honest Man bttt.
He's got my vote...
They can rush giving America away, but God forbid they rush to really secure it.
Stupid bastards...
im sure you just love people who flambointly break the laws of the united states and then demand free handouts. these people are called illegal immigrants for a reason becuse THEY BROKE THE LAW! for an example of what unchecked immigration does LOOK AT AMSTERDAM!
If that isn't a good reason to deny drivers' licenses to illegal aliens, I don't know what is. He said this issue would be taken up in the next Congress. I hope he's right.
Our best hope is to nag, nag, nag our Reps and Senators and try to appeal to their good sense (if they have any).
Yep, it has been getting bad these last few days. They're doing their d*mn level best to turn FR into DU with their anger, hatred, and out right insanity. Anyone who disagrees with them is attacked with names I won't repeat and the hate mail is 100 times worse. Some even want me dead because they think I'm a "Mexican a** kisser".
Yeah. Right.
Would a more accurate description be "illegal alien a** kisser"? (BTW, most illegal aliens are Mexicans)
"The kooks are trying to become the mainstream."
Yup, the "kooks" really hate America and the fact that the Republican Party loves to keep our borders unchecked. Well dude, saddle on up to the Party Bar, join the Cowboy and have some more of that Republican Party Punch.
You two are so cute together.
I wrote him in this time...
There aren't many here against LEGAL immigration, with all the laws that apply. Have another drink.
FMCDH(BITS)
The Dummies are living in their insanely delusional world that the election was stolen and 90% are about this insane issue.
Here on FR, the Buchananites and 3rd party voters whackos are living in their own delusional world that President Bush is the El Presidente of the illegal immigrant and they are going to post the most insane and radical thread on immigration and bash Bush as bad if not worse than the Dummies.
That's not the dumbest thing you've ever said.Border security is an issue that contrary to popular belief in washington will generate votes.Even cross over from Union Dems.Hitlery has already made gestures toward this but has no credibility.Tancredo on the other hand has a clear track record on this issue and obviosly is not afraid to go against the big money interests an party bosses and campaign on it.
BTT
Oh, look, you've come onto another thread to sound juvenile and make a fool of yourself. You're the biggest kook on this thread.
LOL
wanna borrow my stick?
BTTT
Oh, poor little child. Are those big, bad FReepers being mean to you again?
I wonder what was actually "stripped" from the intelligence bill. I was watching the Senate on cspan2 channel today and they haven't voted on the bill yet, but there were some segments of what the bill includes being displayed on cspan2's screen. From what I recall reading from the screen display, the bill includes: national rules for drivers licenses to be applied to the states, more drones to patrol the border, an increase of 2,000 border patrol, deportation of immigrants that have received military training from Al Qaeda.
(from http://www.c-span.org :
Intelligence Votes Near
Both the House and the Senate are in session and will continue on intelligence reform legislation. Yesterday an agreement was reached on most major objections to passage of the conference report. A vote in the House should happen today and one in the Senate tonight or tomorrow.
(also if you have a media player, there is a link to watch the Senate in session at cspan's site. I only get cspan2 channel until 5:00 PM on my cable system.)
I can't wait.

No one is defending illegal immigration.
We must find a solution for illegal immigration and this solution is not deporting 10 or 15 millions immigrants, because it is an impossible thing to do.
There is fringe group on FR that behaving like the Dummies in Dummyland (Democratic Underground). They are insanely obsessed about bashing President Bush on his "GUEST WORKER PROGRAM" and they attacking him as bad if not worse than the DUmmies.
President Bush solution may not be the best but it has a lot of practical measures. What is lacking so far in the President immigration proposal is how to enforce the borders control and this is something the President and his administration need to find a more effective solution for it.
The insanity is that the fringe group on FR, lead by the Buchananites, issue want to deport every illegal immigrant. This is a very dumb idea because we do not have enough law enforcement people to deport 10 to 15 millions illegal immigrants and it will cost us tens if not hundred of billions of dollars to do it.
People need to get real and look for practical solution instead of suggesting insane delusional ideas and spend all their time to bash our President.
Wake up and stop your delusion.
Soon enough, be PATIENT.
Tancredo is a good man. Jorge Bush and the vast majority of other Repubicans are phony RINOs.
I don't think the President has any hidden agenda here at all he's a true believer who has compassion in his heart for people who are coming here to make a better life for themselves.I, on the other hand have a bit less compassion and have yet to meet anyone of either party who are not sick and tired of the illegals, I live in CA.You have to know that we could put a stop to this real quick and on the cheap if they would give the border patrol shoot to kill orders at the border.Probably not going to happen though there are plenty who would like to see it, then again if someone sneaks a nuke across our southern border who knows?
Wrong. Cut off ALL taxpayer funded services to illegal aliens while at the same time crack down HARD on companies that hire illegal aliens. With no jobs and no taxpayer funded freebies, illegal aliens will begin to "deport" themselves, voluntarily. At the same time, let in more LEGAL immigrants to replace the illegal aliens currently in the American workforce.
There is a good side by side comparison at numbersusa.com
The Senate literally stripped out everything that had consequences to the people Invading our country.
Now we've got a new Czar, a whole new set of offices, staff, equipment...
And no balls.
Now the President has come up with a "guestworker" program, the LAST thing in the world we need. Sorry, but he's 100% wrong about this issue and he needs to hear it from Americans.
Buchanan seems more interested in progression of culture through internal forces. Tancredo is more of a duty-oriented person, interested in managing outside influence as a function of government. That's just my impression.
El Presidente Pedro Bush screws America again.
Oh yes - I gave a boatload of money and made thousands of calls to get out the vote. Silly me.
I could not allow Vietnam Vet & POW backstabber Hanoi Kerry win but Jorge Bush is only marginally better. He is a phony Rino like his pa. I pretty much had it with the Bush clan. Maybe Jeb is better but I doubt it.
Or LEGALIZE illegal immigrants through the Guest Worker Program that President Bush is proposing.
Define "kook" if you don't mind taking a breathe in mid rant. I find nothing kookish or extreme about recognizing there is a crisis with illegal immigration not being addressed. I'm sure people are emotional, but that happens to some when they see no hope.
I wrote his name in for the primary.
Spoken like a Massachusetts resident.
The passing of this trash is another concession to the government of mob rule! Remember when the McSlime/Feingold campaign finance law was signed into law because it would be overturned by the Supremes?
As I mentioned earlier, President Bush and his administration should come up a more effective solution for strengthening borders control.
Yes there are True Conservative Republicans in Massachusetts and I am very proud to be one of them.
I am as conservative as any real and true conservative on FR.
Go and read my previous posts before you make this stupid statement
