Over the course of 2004, 148 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, at least 29 of whom were not involved in terrorism in any way, a senior IDF officer in the West Bank division said.
The IDF released figures on Wednesday which summarized the army's activities during the past year, Army Radio reported.
According to the summary, terror organizations attempted to infiltrate 343 suicide bombers into Israel, while successful IDF operations managed to eliminate 119 terrorists.
The number of attempted suicide bombings is fewer than in 2003, the IDF said.
The officer further assessed that the majority of fugitives operating in the West Bank, who claim membership in over 40 organizations, are affiliated with the Hizbullah.

PM: Soldiers deserve more respect
Reacting to a series of accusations that the Israel Defense Forces have lost some of its "moral armor" over recent incidents of "kill verifications" and deaths of innocent Palestinians, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Wednesday that the army is operating under extreme pressure and should be more respected.
"They are probably the world's most moral soldiers in their actions," Sharon said.
"Our soldiers face a battle difficult in the extreme, day and night. They are fighting against probably the most ignoble and horrible gang of murderers in the world. Our soldiers deserve respect for what they are doing. Their efforts must be understood," Sharon told reporters in the Knesset.
The prime minister added that he was confident the army knew how to investigate its mistakes, even "the most difficult ones."
"The most important thing is not to get carried away and denounce the army," Sharon said.

A senior IDF officer released military figures at a press briefing held at the army headquarters compound near the West Bank city of Ramallah.
According to the figures, militant groups tried to send 343 suicide bombers, six of whom managed to execute their missions. In comparison, in 2003 militants tried to launch 436 suicide bombers, of which 18 culminated in an attack, IDF figures indicated.
The IDF has reduced the number of checkpoints from 400 to 70 recently, a senior IDF officer said Wednesday, Israel Radio reported.
More than 100 terror attacks have been averted, and about 3000 Palestinians have been arrested since the start of the year, the official said. In addition, there were 250 shooting attacks since the start of the year, 60 percent less than last year.
