Bill to Bar Foreigners Who Show Disrespect
The Moscow Times ^ | 9 December 2004 | Carl Schreck

Foreigners might want to watch what they say about President Vladimir Putin or how they treat the Russian flag if parliament approves new rules about who is welcome in the country.

The legislation, which is expected to come up for the first of three readings in the State Duma early next year, would allow authorities to deny a visa to any foreigner who shows disrespect toward Russia.

Foreigners could be denied entry if they "commit actions of a clearly disrespectful nature toward the Russian Federation or the federal organs of the government of the Russian Federation," says a draft of the amendment to the law "On Exit From the Russian Federation and Entry Into the Russian Federation."

Denial of entry could also result from actions that disrespect "spiritual, cultural or public values," bring about "significant material harm," or are harming or have harmed "the international prestige of the Russian Federation."

"Other disrespectful or unfriendly actions" could also result in a foreigner being barred from entering the country, the bill says.

A decision on whether a foreigner's actions were disrespectful would be decided by the president, the Federation Council, the State Duma, the government or a court.

We've already got the ACLU, isn't that bad enough?

Why, foriegners have a perfect right to spit, burn and trample the American flag, hold demonstrations on American soil and then toddle on down to the welfare office to pick up ther check. Think La Raza.

We could probably sell this idea to the Liberals by pointing out that it was invented in Russia.

Of course, if they realized it could just as easly apply to the entire Democratic party they would probably vote it down out of self preservation.

"I wonder what liberals would say if such a bill were proposed in the US."

We have enough home grown liberals to take up any slack left by making it illegal for foreigners to bash our flag and our president on our soil.

OK, I am going to be denied entry to mother Russia. Putin carries naked pictures of his sister in his vest pocket.

Speaking of respect - why would any self-respecting person want to visit such a barbarous place unless one has to?

Despite the environmental ravages of the former Soviet Union and continuing environmental ravages of the present singular Russia, it has some beautiful country, exquisite architecture and wonderful people. Even when it was the Soviet Union it had those things. Russia is NOT in any way "barbarous", even if you cannot stand Putin. I personally can barely chlorate him as a leader, but he's got that Russian charm. Yes, there IS Russian charm. You know, laughter, hospitality.

It's their sovereign nation, and it's their right to run it as they see fit.

Personally, I would stand up and salute any politico here in the States who would propose such an audaciously pro-American bill in Congress.

It would be worth it just to hear the multi-cultists howl and scream.

You are a voice of reason. It amazes me how our court system has thrown the conept of jurisdiction out the window. How can a Tanzanian have freedom of speech when he is not a citizen of the united states? I don't think Tom, George or Samuel or Mr. Madison had this in mind when they framed the constitution?

Have you tried oxidizing or nitrating him?

Or maybe you could attach a sulphate radical... I dunno, what's his ionic bonding condition?

(JUST trying to be helpful...)

On a side note, a lot of these idiot bills die in the upper house of parliment. For example, the Bill on the open sale of Beer in public areas and on it's advertisement passed the Duma and died in the Upper House (like it should have).

Oh, GSlob knows that there is a lot of beautiful country there, he's from Russia, he just dispises himself and everything Russian. Kind like the Jews who support the PLO, no difference.
