It's true that Imus was getting good ratings in AM drive, but his show isn't really sports oriented and it was the only thing WFAN had going for them for Imus' first year at the FAN. Mike and the Mad Dog's success in PM drive gave credibility to the all sports format, which had never been tried on any radio station before.
