It may be prevented it will not be cured that way. Pre existing is a legetimate word as used in my comment as it alludes to a weakness that was present before the event that led to the infection, however I agree it is an oft misused term

"Pre-existing" is a phrase coined by insurance companies so they don't have to pay for medical benefits.
It is, in the vernacular, a crock.

The soaring infection rates among younger women are driven partly by social customs that require the women to remain ignorant of sex and sexuality until they marry. But driven far moreso by male infidelity and social customs that turn a blind eye and/or encourage sex outside of marriage. Abstinence followed by faithfulness is 100% effective.

Got it. Thanks. Folks who don't believe in Santa Claus won't get any presents, so people who don't believe in HIV/AIDS won't die of it. They will, instead, die of NSIDV...(Non-specific immune dysfunction virus) and they will be just as dead but a whole lot smarter!

"It may be prevented it will not be cured that way..."Prevention is curative.
No hostility intended toward you, I just don't like that word. Perhaps we should just say prior condition.
My overall point was that every healthy action taken seems to point to the wisdom of self-control and delayed gratification. These are human traits that need to be emphasized in humanity if we are to assert the better angels of our nature.
But if Mother Nature is to do the weeding in our garden, we may not be pleased with her methods.

Monogamy and abstinence are the only preventative (curative?) methods we certainly are in agreement on that point.

Is there another point? It would seem to me that keeping ones' sexual organ under control at all times would eliminate a lot of sexual problems around the world, thereby eliminating STDs.

"...keeping ones' sexual organ under control at all times would eliminate a lot of sexual problems around the world,..." I have tried. I have surely tried. But I must confess, there are two potentially lethal organisms out there for which I am partially responsible.
Yes, it's true. They are out there! Be very afraid!

Yeah, total dismissal is irresponsible. There is plenty of evidence that HIV operates to destroy the body's immune cells thus giving all those old diseases, that have always been there, the opportunity to kill.
