This valient young Hero is a perfect example of the difference between the Muslim terrorists and those who oppose them. While the gutless terrorists hide among innocent, non-combatent, women, children and the elderly, from whence they fire their grenades, knowing that our side will be more concerned with not harming their human shields, than with taking them (the terrorists) out. The foes of terrorism (one of whom we now reverntly speak) are so dedicated to the preservation of human life, that they, almost by instinct, sacrifice their own life for the sake of many lives, or even one life, no more precious than their own-that's just what heros do. May God bless them.

This young man is definetely eligible for the Medal of Honor.
I'm sure that Sgt. Peralta's chain of command has already started the process for submitting and investigating/corroborating the incident.
Here's how we as U.S. citizens can help though: My suggestion is to write your congressman/woman and Senators. They can act as a "overseer" to ensure that the process gets completed!

He was honoring this young Marine even though it would appear, according to the newspaper, that he wasn't a citizen of the US when he came here since he'd just gotten his green card in 2000 right before he enlisted in the military.
It was while he was in the Marines that he became a US citizen.
It might, then, be safe to presume that he was here in the first place as an illegal immigrant or here on another type of program, maybe a tourist visa or something.
Although, there are alot of great illegal and ex-illegal immigrants around here, I'd really prefer that they enter our country the legal way but time is probably against them.

In Operation Market Garden there was an Airborne troop. Who had both arms bandaged to his side. He yelled "Grenade" and jumped on it. I have to check but I think he received the MOH. There were more than 400 in WWII.

One gets a green card after coming here legally, jumping through MANY hoops and waiting until INS gets ready. I know, as I had to go through that process with my wife and we are going through it again with her son. It is NOT safe to presume that he was here ILLEGALLY, as he would NOT have been allowed to enlist as an illegal and he could only get his green card by doing as described above. Thus the comments made by COEXERJ145 were those of a braying jackass who wanted to do no more than intrude on a thread honoring one of MY Marines.
IIRC, he was awarded citizenship post mortem.

Hmmm, maybe you remember that thread about hostages, either Belsan or Americans in Iraq or Saudi or something and one guy who either had been or is still in the military said he uses a certain simple program (I believe "action" was part of the name and part of the url) for self defense, and he gave the url?

It is probably wrong of me to use this guy's sacrifice to make a point on immigration. But, the guys on the other side who used a cruel shooting to make their point were more exploitative and more outrageous than I.
But yes, our thanks and prayers go out to this brave man.
First of all thank you for pinging me to this thread staytrue. I must admit that I don't post on these threads, but I thank the brave soldiers each day and appreciate their excellence and sacrifices.
This soldier gave his life for our freedom, and I give my prayers and ultimate thanks to his family for his sacrifice.
Unfortunately, IMO, there are some on FR, who may not get past this soldiers surname and no you were not exploitive, just pointing out that good and brave American values are instilled in every ethincity, contrary to a concerted propaganda campaign by a small but vocal faction on FR.

I told my Sunday school class kids his story a few weeks ago. The lesson was on being faithful. (God faithful to us, and us faithful to him.)
I spent half the time telling Sgt. Peralta's story. He had faith in his fellow marines, and they had faith in him. Trust, honor, integrity, - Love.
