'Soul' and 'spirit' are two English translations of just one Greek word. There is no 'soul' vs 'spirit' distinction in the Greek.

Well, there is a distinction in 'christianese.' We don't consider the soul the same as the spirit. The soul is where our emotions lie. The spirit is what communes with God (or satan, if one is so inclined). It's also called the stream of consciousness in some circles.
