Well, it would've been nice if it hadn't degenerated into a dictatorship decades ago, it would've been nice if it didn't isolate itself and occasionally invade its neighbors, it would've been nice if the UN hadn't accepted bribe money from Saddam in exchange for keeping him in power, What does any of this have to do with McCain, Rumsfeld (or the United States, for that matter)?

"I have more confidence in Rumsfeld than I do in McCain. McCain is an odd duck." When the war is over, and we have been successful McCain just finished his political future with that statement. That was an incredibly stupid thing to say on so many levels.

Actually, instead of a knee-jerk reaction to McCain's opinion Actually, if you eliminated knee-jerk reactions here, the forum would dry up in about three days. ;o)

No, things are going pretty well, all things considered. There is no Iraqi civil war, with the only violence coming from foreign terrorists who were present before we knocked Saddam out of power, and who streamed in after the borders were flung open.
The great thing is that Iraqi rebuilding is going on despite the terrorists' best efforts, which many times is a roadside bomb. I personally think one of the unstated reasons for invading Iraq was to create a terrorist magnet, and then to kill those terrorists--and it's working very well.
Given what could've occurred--a general anti-American uprising, all-out civil war and a splitting of Iraq along racial and religious lines, and/or terrorist attacks in America--the situation in Iraq has progressed very nicely. It's gone better so far than the occupation of Germany.

Sorry Joe, I disagree. The war was brilliant. The post-war has been tough because of the need to complete rebuild Iraq like one big inner city project. The population expected us to work miracles in a short period of time and some (read the spoiled Sunnis) got disillusioned and bot into the crap from the worst idiot mullahs.
Frankly, it's amazing that it has gone as well as it has. So much of what we are dealing with is the price of winning too fast. We didn't kill enough of the bad guys. They ran away and have been joined by the "eager to die" gang, and are counting on a compliant press to force us to leave. So glad Dubya is in charge.
As for screw ups, show me a war that didn't have ZILLIONS of them...it's the nature of the beast.

Once again, McCain shows the world there's nothing he won't say or do to get himself a little more face time.
"The president can decide that, not me."
Mighty white of ya', Johnny.

Who elected McCain president and forgot to tell the rest of us? Nobody.
Who took his First Amendments rights away from him?

That's why McCain is 1 of 100 senators and Rummy is the only Secretary of Defense.....

Thank you. I could never support McCain for any reason. I had hoped the recall that was started in Arizona would actually go somewhere, but it didn't. He is a traitor to his party and really likes being considered a "maverick." The media loves him and he loves him--a match made in heaven. (:o)
