Police probe Sgro security

A national security probe has been launched into the office of Immigration Minister Judy Sgro after a senior staffer was quietly fired for suspicion of being a threat to the country, government officials say. The staffer, a Canadian of Sri Lankan origin, had worked for several weeks in Sgro's Ottawa office, according to sources close to the case.

Sources said the Toronto man, whose identity hasn't been released, was given a top position because he was a tireless recruiter of South Asians for the Liberal Party of Canada (Ontario).

Six sources, including police, a Liberal and Conservative MPs and immigration brass, have confirmed the employee was sacked last summer after it was discovered he had links to the Tamil Tigers, who are deemed a terrorist group and banned from Canada.

HIGH-LEVEL ACCESS

Police are poring through files and computer hard drives to determine if they were tampered with by the former worker, who had access to top-level secrets.

Conservative MP Jason Kenny said he's heard about the allegations and probe into Sgro's office.

"There are lots of suspicious activity surrounding this minister that raises questions," Kenny said yesterday. "It seems to be getting deeper and deeper."

Sgro has been barraged with questions almost daily by Opposition MPs in Parliament for granting status to Romanian stripper Alina Balaican, 25, who worked on her election campaign.

ETHICS PROBE

The federal ethics commissioner is investigating to determine if Sgro broke conflict-of-interest rules.

RCMP Cpl. Danis Lafond and CSIS spokesmen Barbara Campion both said yesterday they couldn't confirm or deny the existence of an investigation.

My guess is that money also went to terrorists, it happened already with CIDA Pakistan projects to the benefit of AL Qaeda and Kosovo project on behalf of KLA terrorists.

Although it may be worth noting that losing Sgro from the Cabinet would be at least a bit of a blow to the radical feminist contingent.
Judy's a real piece of work whom I believe was the only one of Chretien's "token woman" appointed candidates ever initially rejected by the electorate. (vs. Nunziata in '97) A year or so later the Libs got her elected in a nearby by-election but during her previous time on Toronto's Metro Council her primary claim to fame was railing non-stop against "Johns" who in her mind were oppressing "sex trade workers".

Plainly it's a pretty short jump from prostitutes' advocate to Liberal Cabinet Minister. - LOL!
