Your words seem to indicate that I would rather turn a blind eye toward the worlds most awful human beings or the countrys most deranged sociopaths. Nothing could be further from the truth. I believe society should go after these people and capture them at any cost, but if they are apprehended alive, I dont believe we should kill them to satisfy the thirst for blood.
The death penalty reeks of Mesoamerican sacrifice where the Aztec practiced human sacrifice on a large scale; an offering to Huitzilopochtli would be made every day to aid the sun in rising. The dedication of the great temple at Tenochtitlán was reportedly marked with the sacrifice of thousands. Today the excuse to sacrifice is in the name of justice (death penalty), to protect the community from the unwanted (abortion) and quality of life (assisted suicide).
Its the culture of death that I find most troubling not the death of the killers, nor do I want my government to become the killers thru the sanctioning of the death penalty, abortion or euthanasia.
