It's time for local school officials to tell the busybodies in D.C. (from Pres. Bush on down) to take No Child Left Behind and the other federally mandated, one-size-fits-all school programs and stick them.

I totally disagree with you. There should be a one size fits all education system where reading, writing and math are standardized at the level of prep schools curriculums.
If a child cannot handle it, remedial classes should be given until the student can move back into the "mainstream".

There also needs to be standards with Social Studies. The founding of this country should be the first thing taught. The Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the history of this country should be required. Every child should know something about every President. How our political system works. My childrens school teaches about the state we live in, the resources, rivers and lakes, the infrastructure and who lived here prior.

Fine art and music can be taught based on multiculturalism. Eastern as well as western art and music should be taught and students encouraged to explore.

The problem with todays education system is that administrators and the NEA are more concerned with their own agendas than those of the kids. Most of the taxes that are paid to support school districts are used to fund nepotism instead of education.

NCLB is trying to change the system that is failing our children. Resistance to change by the NEA will keep our children from learning. Teachers and administrators need to be held accountable. Parents need to be held accountable. The kids need to be held accountable.

I come home from work every night, after twelve hours to sit down with my kids and help them with their homework. We study together for tests and together we work on their reports and projects. Their grades reflect their dedication and committment to learning.

Where they fail to get educated, I make it a point to teach them. When teachers go off and start talking about agendas and brainwashing them on socialist thought, the next day I am in the classroom reminding the teacher that Bush is our President and not Castro.

Our education system needs to be standardized. The curriculum needs to be changed to reflect it. NCLB is our hope. If that is something that does not interest you, than please send your children to private school or home school them. What really needs to happen is that the NEA needs to be abolished and teachers paid by their success in teaching a curriculum devoid of political thought.
