Judge Suspended For Wearing Blackface To Party

NEW ORLEANS -- The Louisiana Supreme Court has given a judge a six-month suspension for wearing blackface makeup, handcuffs and a jail jumpsuit to a Halloween party.

Judge Timothy Ellender will lose all of his pay during the suspension. That totals more than $50,000.

Ellender, who is white, said the costumes worn by him and his wife were meant as a joke. She dressed as a policewoman. And the party's host, Ellender's brother-in-law, was dressed as Buckwheat.

The justices agreed Ellender did not mean to insult blacks. Still, they ordered him to take a sociology course to get "a greater understanding of racial sensitivity."

Racial sensitivity training: the American Left's answer to the old Soviet "re-education" centers.

Why we put up with this Leftist tyranny is beyond me.

What a dumb#@@! And this guy is a judge? How someone with such a lack of common sense got elected to the bench is frightening. Glad he lost his money - damn lucky he's not losing his job.

He might indeed be a dumb#@@, but it ought to bother you that anybody would be fined $50k for wearing a costume to a party.

He loses $50K of taxable income for his six month suspension.

No, not at all. As a matter of judicial ethics, he has a responsibility to make sure that there is no reason for the public to challenge his impartiality, lack of prejudice and/or bias - this is the oath one takes when one becomes a judge. His appalling lack of judgment evidences a callousness towards this obligation and towards his ethical responsibility as a judge - a fine, imposed by the Supreme Court of the state, is the least of this guy's worries - he's lucky the judicial tenure commission didn't toss him from the bench. I repeat what a dumb#@@!

Hmmm . . . no mention of his political affiliation at all.

That's interesting.

The guy's an imbecile. But there is no way I will ever submit to undergoing a government re-education...a bit too Kremlinesque to me.

Every single lawyer in this country goes through a character and fitness examination at some point in their bar admission - this "sensitivity" training falls right in line with the fact that you don't have obvious personal characteristics and history that would make you a poor representative of the bar.

Not too Kremlinesque - he is in a position of public trust -hypothetically, if you are a black man going in front of this judge on the Monday after the Saturday night party at which he and his wife went to a costume party as a police officer and an arrested black man or suspect, wouldn't you have cause to pause? This is the worst kind of racism and he should be tossed. He's not worthy of the robe.

He is a Republican judge from Houma, Louisiana. He is not up for re-election again until 2008.

Do you know his relationship to the former Senator Allen J Ellender from Terrebonne parish?..... if any? Just curious and couldn't find anything in the bio.

Since the article didn't mention the Judge's party affiliation, I take it that he must be a Rat.

From the video:
For twenty years his record has been unblemished. Now he's suspended without pay and has to undergo "diversity training".
