Barney has a nose for the D.C. spotlight

WASHINGTON - The White House unveiled its latest secret project yesterday: Barney III.
It is the third holiday video featuring the first family's Scottish terrier, Barney. The black terrier is shown scampering past the elaborate Christmas trees and other seasonal decor at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
This year's version, which includes scenes of President Bush [related, bio] and his dog in the Oval Office, is entitled ``Where in the White House is Miss Beazley?''
Miss Beazley is the puppy that first lady Laura Bush was given last month by her husband as a birthday gift.

The plot isn't likely to show up on an Oscar list anytime soon. Barney is instructed to take special care of the first family's latest addition. He soon begins scouring the White House, stopping to visit several of the president's top aides, including White House counsel Alberto Gonzalez, as he pursues his mission. Along the way, the presidential pup encounters Bush political strategist Karl Rove pulling blue ornaments off a Christmas tree and replacing them with red ones - instructing the dog to check Ohio in the search for Miss Beazley. Barney also comes across White House chief of staff and Massachusetts native Andrew Card. A frustrated Barney soon learns, however, that Miss Beazley won't be arriving until next month. The video can be seen on the White House Web site. No word yet on a sequel.

I've got dial-up and I am really hoping that Fox shows the Barney film like they did last year.

That's got to be the best part of the movie, LOL!

Another good line, from new Sec of Education (can't remember her name) and the press conference bit was really good!

I couldn't wait to see the video and it was really funny. The blue Christmas ornament bit was clever. The part I liked best about it, though, is that frankly, some of the "actors" aren't great. They don't exactly deliver their lines flawlessly, sometimes they seemed a bit awkward to me. I think that makes it the video more endearing... I couldn't help but think if Clinton had done this, it would have been a Linda Bloodworth Thomason production with complete Hollywood treatment, totally polished, etc. (of course, the Clinton cronies had a lot more experience delivering scripted fictional lines) and kind of soulless. The Bush video has the heartwarming quality (to me) of a home video. I really enjoyed it.

You are right about the Clintons. Their productions were slick. I remember one made in '99. Clinton was portrayed as a lame duck without much to do. H! was in the senate. The part I remember best showed Clinton chasing H!'s limo down the WH driveway. She had forgotten her sack lunch.

Clinton is a great actor, as we all know. He could have been a contender.

A rather appropriate statement about Democrat politics, I'd say.

That was my favorite part of the video, Rove pulling the blue Christmas ornaments off the tree and hollering for red Christmas ornaments. No sublety there...
