11 soldiers wounded in mortar attack
By MARGOT DUDKEVITCH
Eleven soldiers of the Givati Brigade were lightly wounded when a salvo of three mortar shells exploded next to the Narkiss outpost near Atzmona in Gush Katif on Thursday evening.
As soldiers returned fire, the wounded were evacuated by ambulance to the Soroka Hospital in Beersheba.
The IDF Spokesman said the mortar shells wounded soldiers both inside and outside the post.
In October, Givati brigade soldier Sgt. Michael Chizik, 21, of Tiberias was killed and six others were wounded when their IDF post near Morag in southern Gaza suffered a direct hit from two mortar shells.
During the day, seven mortar shells were fired at settlements and an IDF base in Gush Katif and northern Gaza.
Shots were fired at IDF posts near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip and in Gush Katif. No one was wounded in any of the attacks.
Three Palestinian teenagers arrested
In the West Bank, three Palestinian teenagers were arrested by soldiers at the Hawara checkpoint at the southern Nablus exit. The three, aged 14 to 17, were armed with knives and a full magazine of M-16 bullets. They were handed over to security officials for questioning.
They are the second group of armed teenagers arrested at the checkpoint.
On November 28, soldiers arrested four Palestinians aged 14 to 17 trying to bypass the checkpoint. The four had knives, rifle bullets and leaflets.
It was at the same checkpoint earlier this week that security forces discovered a seven-kilogram bomb in a cupboard hidden in the false bottom of a truck that was to be used in a suicide bombing. In October, soldiers at the checkpoint arrested a 20-year-old Palestinian woman who planned to carry out a suicide bombing. In August, security forces arrested a member of the Fatah Tanzim who also planned to carry out a suicide bombing.
However, the checkpoint is best remembered for two minors, Husam Abdu, 14, and Abdullah Kuran, 11, who were caught with bombs.
Abdu was wearing an explosives belt and Kuran had been told to give a bag containing a bomb to a woman waiting on the other side of the checkpoint in exchange for NIS 5.
The Palis are like drug dealers, using kids to do their dirty work.
