COLUMBIA, S.C. - A high-ranking member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans says he is unfairly being labeled a racist in criticism over his recent appointment to the state Board of Education. Ron Wilson, former head of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, was appointed to the board last week by the Anderson County legislative delegation. His appointment drew criticism from civil rights organizations, which have linked him to racist and anti-Semitic activities.

The only reason they think this guy is racist is because he HONORS his family that died in the civil war by placing markers on their graves!!!!!

The sons of confederate veterans is by far one of the most respected groups out there, like the sons of union veterans.

there are even current and former senators of the united states who were members, and because the southern poverty law center (the most racist organization i have ever seen) says he is racist is that suppose to somehow make it true? hell no.

I hope the Anderson County Legislative delegation has enough guts to stand by their appointee. Aren't they free to choose whom they want for this position?

I can't say I agree with your characterization of this.

We had a long discussion about this sort of thing on this thread. post 88 was my main opinion, although there are some long posts after it too.

Did the Anderson County Legislative delegation do anything illegal in appointing this man?

I was VERY upset when the state of New York elected Hillary Clinton to be their Senator; but no matter how much I might protest and say she's a possible Socialist, she was elected legally and she gets to stay.

So the delegation should stand with their appointee, if it was done legally.

I agree. I think if voters are upset about this they should vote out the elected officials that appointed him. Personally, I would not vote for any of them again...

"Personally, I would not vote for any of them again..."

I'm hoping New Yorkers feel the same way about Hillary (if she runs again for Senate).

I would much rather have those County delegation officials as members of government than I would Hillary Clinton.
