ALBANY A settlement with major national wholesalers has pulled thousands of toy guns that violate New York state law from shelves, many of them from a new target costume shops.
The wholesalers were estimated to have distributed more than 12,000 toy guns in 2001 alone in violation of a state law that previously had been applied only to retailers.
The settlement with New York state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's office is different from past actions in that it targets wholesalers and companies that specialize not in toys, but costume props and novelties.
Spitzer said the distributors sold toy guns that violated a 15-year-old state law that bans realistic-looking toy guns unless they had permanent, usually inch-wide, orange stripes running down both sides of the barrel.
Without admitting any wrongdoing, Rubie's Costumes Co. agreed to pay $27,000 in civil penalties and costs and Franco American Novelty Co. agreed to pay $10,000 to end Spitzer's civil action.

I believe the NY State Smoking ban does ban smoking in theatrical events. When the Rolling Stones played MSG Keith Richards lit up a cigarette and Bloomberg, who was in attendance demanded that the police arrest him on the sport. The police informed Bloomberg that doing such would cause a riot. Bloomberg didn't care and again ordered Richards arrested. The cops refused to do so.
They can have my capgun when they pry it from my cold dead hands.
If anyone is interested in some truly cool play guns, I suggest www.visionforum.com and www.mantleministries.com
They are actually metal, and are really quite cool!
It's because of crap like this that whenever someone talks about ousting Shrillary from her post as NY senator, I tend to say, "Let her stay. NY deserves her."
Neat stuff, thanks for the links.
You know a government is out of control when it goes after costume shops (Spitzer) and old ladies in wheelchairs (TSA).
State Deal Muzzles Toy Guns
=====
Umm... Does that mean you can't sell toy guns without silencers attached ???
Probably next go after the DAV and VFW guys for carrying 'assault weapons' in the 4th of July parade.

Totally preposterous. I'll paint orange stripes on my gun so Spitzer will think it's a toy. Hah!!! ;-))
My favorite toy as a youngster was my Roy Rogers six-shooter with holster and Greenie Stick-um Caps.
I never held up a bank with it.
no toy bayonets either
And what about the honor guards DAV, VFW, AmVets and American Legion provide at the funeral's of veterans? I'm sure if they carried replica or "defanged" AR-15s or M-16s I'm sure they would. It might not be a smart move though, some of them might not be "defanged" after all.
