Bump for use later.
We need to hold an intervention with Bush on this issue...
#1 - ALL illiegal immigrants leave the country.
#2 - the federal/state/county/municiple govts make a real and concerted effort to find and deport any illegal immigrants that DON'T leave the USA. The border guards and customs officers have lists of those deported and DON'T let them back in.
#3 - Only those aliens with PROOF of an employer be let back into the USA.
THEN, I support the President's guest worker policy.
Another great article by Michelle Malkin. That gal tells it like it is. The open borders lobby must hate her guts.
I say we kick them all out and find out if this statement is true or just 'talk'.

GOP Congress would have likely resisted JFK amnesty schemes, yet stands a good chance of approving the same perfidy from this stammering clown.

SO sick of hearing that.
If this had been a Helen Thomas thread, there would have been 10 pictures by now. Very telling....
It's just that employers can save a LOT of money by hiring illegals.
As long as employers are hiring illegals, it proves the benefits of doing so outweigh the perceived risks.

I agree in principle and disagree in specifics. We need to be talking about a guest worker program. And one of its most important facets is that anyone who has violated our immigration laws is ineligible. Further features should be: employers pay a $1000 per month fee to the government to hire the guest worker. Children born here are not granted citizenship. It is limited to 5 years.
It's babies or immigrants, folks. Take your pick. We cannot arrive at 2025 with two workers per retiree. You can only tax people so much. If we're not going to have euthanisia for Granny, we need people out there working and paying taxes. Right now the fertility of American women is just below the replacement rate. We're not going to avoid a demographic debacle if that keeps up. Just be glad our immigrants are from a basically Christian country, and they don't come here with orders from God to kill us all. But come they will, and the government won't do squat about it. They can't. They can't allow the demographic time bomb to go off; it's too ugly. So rail and rant all you want. Nothing will change. |
Michelle seems to be calling for mass deportations, nothing less.
But take caution when demanding this. The real world I live in would go berzerk and Bush would be impeached if there were mass deportations of Mexican illegals. Picture it: families with little kids being herded onto busses under the watching National Guard. Cameras rolling, network TV chiming in. Kids crying.
This is reality, not some fascist liberal fantasy... because does anyone think 8 million illegals will just up and head South without coercion, in a single silent movement? Sure I'd like 'em gone. But what actual form would it take?
If any Freeper, or Ms Malkin, can paint us the picture of a seamless, practical mass deportation without sparking a politically deadly P.R. firestorm, I'm all ears.
Bush has a plan to at least identify, track and return these illegals as guest workers. It's a blue card, with ID and an address and employer, good for 3 yrs only if employed and paying into the system. No implied citizenship. I take GWB at his word, he's earned that from me. On the democrat left, you have blanket mass amnesty that keeps all the invisibles intact, workers AND criminals. Free Green cards.
On the right you have this insistence on mass deportation and the hell that would follow, including bringing the conservative/GOP momentum to a grinding stop with just one evening's news clips.
In marketing, we work with the world as it is, not as we'd wish it to be, it's mere brutal honesty. People are lazy and vain. Emotional stories sell. The mainstream press is gunning for the Prez. Perception is reality. We deal with it and use it to our advantage, selling products to the stubborn and the wary.
Shrieking Salvadoran mothers with crying, fearful little kids being forced onto a bus will explode this nation. The "right" will never recover from the inevitable bad press.
I expect the democrats to be ignorant of the Law of Unintended Consequences, that's their most obvious flaw... but Freepers, Republicans and our friend Michele Malkin? This issue is a tar baby, and the left is hoping Republicans will take a poke at it.
Don't fall for it.
John Kerry and the libs aside, time to get behind the growing CONSERVATIVE BACKLASH on these and other issues, against The President, in the House of Representatives (which was detailed in USA TODAY, today).
