The 2200 block of North Sibley Street is a typical suburban street, a row of mostly three-bedroom brick houses built in the 1960s and 1970s where the lawns are well kept and many of the residents have lived for two decades.

"Iman Mohammed was a sister-in-law of Abdelhaleem Ashqar, an Alexandria, Va., resident who is a minor candidate in the Jan. 9 Palestinian presidential election to choose a successor to Yasser Arafat. Ashqar, who is married to a sister of Iman Mohammed's, faces federal racketeering charges in connection with alleged fund raising for the Palestinian group Hamas, which the U.S. government has identified as a terrorist organization."

Lee said Mohammed's ex-wife, who lives in the New Orleans area, also is cooperating with the investigation. Sometimes "cooperating with the investigation" is police speak for "suspected but not yet arrested." And of course sometimes it isn't.
Given the number of stab wounds, this sounds more like a crime of passion than a political murder. But considering the kind of political murders Arabs sometimes commit, like that woman in Fallujah whose four limbs and head were cut off, it's hard to be sure.

My thoughts exactly. In a non-Muslim case, this would be an obvious crime of passion with 33 knife wounds. But look at the Van Gogh killing: A long thought-out plan comes down to knifing a guy repeatedly on a public street.
But murder was the only thing on this killer's mind. Didn't take a single thing. Someone in the ex-wife's family might be a good bet.
Hmmm, I wonder if she provided information against her brother-in-law. Someone killed a witness?
