There were over two and a half million Indian citizens in uniform during WWII. The Fifth Indian Division, for example, fought in the Sudan against the Italians, and then in Libya against the Germans. From North Africa the Division was moved to Iraq to protect the oilfields.
Over 36,000 Indian members of the armed forces were killed or went missing in action, and 64,354 were wounded during the second world war. Indian personnel received 4,000 awards for gallantry, and 31 Victoria Crosses.
The land of India also served as an assault and training base, and provided vast quantities of foods and other materials to British and Commonwealth forces, and to the British at home. This necessitated the involvement of more millions of men and women in war work and war production.
I wouldn't call that doing nothing.

Bandit Queen wasn't banned in India-heck I saw it a week after release & it was still running in a couple of theatres last year.IT faced problems with the censors not for it's content but because of a nude rape scene.
You forgot to add bases & logistical facilities for American forces. For eg,most of the support given to anti-Japanese forces in China was from India.American & British planes flew daily over the Himalayas to deliver arms & aid for Chinese fighters.
You seem to forget that India's problems with Pakistan has a Chinese hand in it.China & India fought a war in 1962 & India became closely allied with the US for a few years since that conflict-an alliance which got cut at the end of the decade due to a number of factors. The real arms race in Asia is between India & China,Pakistan is a mere Chinese proxy.Take a look at the ORBAT of Pakistan's military.
If the US had the foresight to see that the little "squabble" with pakistan was about islamic fundamentalism, 911 could have been prevented.
Unfortunately the US only wakes up after a pearl harbor happens isnt it?
And if you are not happy with the UN then at least India is not to blame for that. They have done their part.
Its the US thats sits on the Security council and has more influence in the UN isnt it?
Even today the US wont let India have more say in the UN.
You cant have it both ways. He who has more authority has to shoulder more responsibility. learn that.
STrange, mind if I ask you how may countries HAVE you set foot in besides Algeria and india?
STrange, mind if I ask you how may countries HAVE you set foot in besides Algeria and india? And is it any co-incidence that both those countries are fighting against islamic fundamentals?

oh, so AE (After England), what have they done?
oh, yes, reduced the number of people below the poverty line from 75% of the population to 20% o the population, made the country self-sufficient in food cultivation. Not bad for a country of 1 billion, cosnidering that they are a republic and have been one, with regular elections since their independence unlike every other country that gained independence post WWII -- oh, wait there was ONE other country that retained it's democracy -- ISRAEL
Good for them.
