I figure there are a few new computer users that could benefit from this repost....

I've been on FR for I don't know how many years and this is the first time I've read this. I spend enough time here, I ought to have known this history by now. Thanks for posting it.

What would be a nice addition to this article would be a screen shot of early FR. Anyone have one?

You mean you're not ripping anyone off, Howlin? :) Just kidding!

Thanks for posting that. Being new, I hadn't read that one yet. It was interesting to find out.

As for the rest of it, I wish Jim would get rich off of this! He deserves it.

I swear, if there were no FreeRepublic I seriously believe George Bush would not have been elected...... either time!

I made it a point to tell Jim both of those things when I met him during his peregrinations this summer.

Good, I'm glad. He needs to hear it. He has created a very important American institution with FR.

I thought FR was linked on Drudge. That's how I remember finding it. When I teach I run into people who read FR. It is a great blessing for everyone. Thanks Jim.

I swear, if there were no FreeRepublic I seriously believe George Bush would not have been elected...... either time!

NO doubt about it.

Repeatedly, I have thought this mainly because of the constant references on the Internet. Whenever I do a search on current affair issues, Free Republic invariably pops up.

And more often than not, radio talk shows bring up topics that are being discussed on FR...some mention the reference some do not. But they are making FR their first stop before they start talking.

FR is hard wired into the nation's and indeed the world's communication matrix.

Thanks for posting this, Dak. Ping for later review.

I lurked for a few months before joining in Jan 1998. Those were heady times.

Thank you, Jim, for starting Free Republic. You have made life very interesting and your forum has singlehandedly brought down Dan Rather. When that happened I crossed the line from being quiet about admitting I was a freeper and started feeling proud about it.

I will pray for you today.

I joined 19 days after you did! But, unlike you, I can quit anytime I want to. :-)
