Outrage as Iraqi beheading shown at concert

TOKYO - A Japanese broadcaster has voiced his anger and has apologised after sponsoring a weekend concert where a rock band played the Internet video showing the beheading of a Japanese hostage in Iraq.

The sponsor of the event, Tokyo Broadcasting System, said it had no forewarning of the stunt.

"Showing this kind of video in public can never be forgiven on humanitarian grounds," the network said in a statement.

"As the sponsor, we offer deep apologies to the family of (Shosei) Koda, people who came to the concert and other people concerned," the statement said, without naming the band that showed the video.

Footage of Islamic militants decapitating 24-year-old backpacker Shosei Koda was shown on a large screen during the concert on Sunday in Urayasu, the city east of Tokyo which hosts Tokyo Disneyland.

Klack, a Japanese band that was one of 12 groups featured in the concert, showed the video for more than 10 minutes, local media reported.

Koda, described as a gentle but naive young man, became Japan's only hostage executed in Iraq after travelling to Baghdad as a tourist and searching aimlessly for a hotel.

An al-Qaeda-linked group associated with Iraq's most wanted man Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on October 26 posted a video on the Internet demanding that Japan pull its troops out of Iraq within 48 hours, a demand flatly rejected by Tokyo.

A week later, the group released footage of three hooded men pouncing on Koda and beheading him.

I think it's great. People need to wake-up to reality and understand what this is really all about. And the best way to do that is to have them watch the towers fall, the bodies drop, the head's cut off. I've watched all of the videos myself and as sickening as they are, they have strengthened and resolved my anger for Islamic Fundamentalists. It's the propaganda we need in whatever form it takes.

You've watched all of them? You've got issues.

It's apparent that terrorist beheading propaganda videos are quickly becoming part of the popular culture, a new form of entertainment for the Internet and music videos.

It's not "great".

This was an inexcusable atrocity, but doncha think he was kind of asking for trouble?

....I think it's great."......

Ya know, in a warped kind of a way, you're right.

Maybe each of our armed service members should be awakened with a video of a beheading, or yesterday's IED blast, or a gassed Kurd.

Maybe it would piss them off enough to demand that their leaders allow them to fight; to blast the body away from the bones from anyone that looks suspicious, and to not have some chicken-shit tribunal determining their fate in the event that they killed someone, before they got killed.

Enough of this PC wartime horsesh!tt. Fight to win, and then get the hell out of there!
