Ohio finishes recount, shows Bush and Kerry about 300 votes closer

By: JOHN SEEWER - Associated Press

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Election officials finished the presidential recount in Ohio on Tuesday, with the final tally shaving about 300 votes off President Bush's six-figure margin of victory in the state that gave him a second term.

The recount shows Bush winning Ohio by 118,457 votes over John Kerry, according to unofficial results provided to The Associated Press by the 88 counties. Lucas County, home to Toledo, was the last to finish counting.

The state had earlier declared Bush the winner by 118,775 votes and plans to adjust its totals to reflect the recount later this week.

The Kerry campaign supported the recount, but said it did not expect the tally to change the election winner. Supporters of the recount, requested by two minor party candidates, said they wanted to make sure every valid vote was counted.

Kerry gained 734 more votes in the recount, and Bush picked up 449, mostly from disqualified ballots that were counted in the second tally because hanging chads had come loose when ballots were handled again or rerun through counting machines.

That put Kerry 285 votes closer to Bush. The president's victory margin declined by about three dozen more votes when some counties adjusted their certified vote totals...

At the current rate, only 416 more recounts are needed for kerry to pull ahead of bush in ohio.

I came up with 373 more recounts, based on the actual 318 vote gain, not the 300 vote approximation. But, hey, what's a few dozen recounts among friends?

But in DUmmy land, this is just the beginning...

After subpoenas and depositions and fraud investigations, Bush will be forced to resign. This is just like Watergate and Watergate took 2 years.

Riiiiiggggghhhhhhttttt.

They are going to be disappointed on Jan 6. And then again on Jan 20. Not that I mind disappointing them.

And waste time and money to get themselves in the news.

Has there EVER been a recount where the Democrat LOST votes?

I don't doubt that it's certainly a ripe opportunity for dems to manufacture fraudulent votes, but another reason why the dems gain votes in recounts is probably because many of their voters are incompetent boobs who don't know how to vote properly.

I have become addicted to DU and their insanity. Watching them ride the manic/depressive roller coaster is both amusing and repulsive. I have never seen a true case of mass insanity before but DU proves it exists.

Shucks, I've been gloating since 11/03.

No way was Kerry gonna overcome a 120,000 lead on a recount, it was a stupid move and a waste of money to even try. Maybe 1200, but 120,000? Uh-uh.
