THE 'STINGY' SLUR
New York Post ^

An appropriately red-faced senior United Nations official beat a hasty retreat yesterday after accusing America and other well-off Western nations of a stingy response to the devastation in south Asia. Jan Egeland, a Norwegian who holds the lofty title of Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, now claims he was misinterpreted when he charged Monday that there are several donors who are less generous than before in a growing world economy.
[snip]
Misinterpreted?
Baloney.
Egeland knew exactly what he was saying and he meant every word of it.
Of course, it was about as truthful as the rest of the slime that oozes from that cesspool on First Avenue.
[snip]
If all of those self-important diplomats simply anted up a small percentage of the money they raked in under the Oil for Food program which was designed as humanitarian aid for starving Iraqis but instead became an under-the-table cash cow for top U.N. officials Egeland might find himself with some serious cash.
[snip]
In short, Americas initial response to this human tragedy is nothing for which this country need apologize or have to answer for to small-minded, and bigmouthed, United Nations diplomats.

They're lucky I'm not President. I'd get us out of the UN, put the UN diplomats in prison, and keep 'em there until the nations of the world paid us back for every penny spent on 'em.

We also forget we are rife with charities that help in disasters. We don't depend on government to take care of every little thing. Private sectors rise to the need for help. They tempted us and we fell for it...sending $20 million more! We shouldn't have.

IT IS Ironic that a Norwegian would come out and condemn the USA. Yup Norway a nation with the highest standard of living. Yup Norway a nation with billions of Oil Revenue that gives almost no aid to the world. Yup Norway had thousands of its females give birth to children to help repopulate Hitler's master in NAZI sponsored Hospitals. Yup Norway a nation that had over 15,000 of it's citizens fight in the German NAZI army and ensure the continuation of Dachau and the Holocaust is saying the USA who lost hundreds of thousands of Americans to free the world from NAZI and Japanese terror is condemning the USA?? HYPOCRATE????? Where is all the Oil for food money -- that scandal money can help with aid the poor victims -- oh yea the UN workers only talk about horror but never contribute a PENNY!

Has anyone got access to the list of "oil for food" bribe takers at the UN in order to check for the presence of Jan Egeland,Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. With that title, he's had to be deeply involved in the program and the "skimming".

It would be constructive if he called to SPEED UP the investigation of Oil for Food Scandal, so the deals could be unwound, and the money made available for this effort.
Unlikely from him. But we should be SCREAMING letters to editors to this effect, from our side.

When you compare the population base along with the income base and than add up all the private aid that Americans give along with government aid -- Percent wise Americans give a heck of a lot more aid than Norway does.
Norway still owes the USA billions in interest from the Money they borrowed from the USA. Yet if Norway buys us Treasury notes they expect to be paid interest!!

In defense of UNSG Egerland that unwarranted statement of yours is uncalled for and it would benefit you to withdraw it.
From the UN website:-
http://www.un.org/Depts/OHRM/salaries_allowances/sitemap.htm
We can find Mr. Egerland's base salary is a pitiful US$174,137 p.a.. In addition Mr Egerland receives a New York duty allowance equivalent to 60.7% of his base. A piffling $105,159.
Now he also receives a rent allowance equal to 25% of his adjusted salary which works out to be $69,824.
This totals out at US $349,120 p.a..
Did I mention that Norway does not tax its citizens working abroad nor does the US tax UN staff (unless they are US nationals). So Mr Egerland keeps every penny...........tax free. That is chutzpah!
Now about your remark!

According to the CIA world factbook GDP per capita is identical in both the US and Norway at $37,800.
Norway gives governmental aid of around $311 per head of population. the US gives $24. Note that neither figure includes the donations of private individuals
Additionally Norways external debt is 0 (zero)
The US external debt is $1.4 trillion

I will immediately don my sack cloth and ashes and proceed to Turtle Bay to seek forgiveness.
Or, at least a decent handout.
