UK Police Among Worst in the World, Says Report
The Times [UK] ^ | January 2, 2005 | David Cracknell

Britain has one of the world’s most ineffective police forces and highest crime rates, according to an authoritative report to be published this week.

It says the police spend too much time behind desks instead of tackling and preventing crime. The result, it says, is that crime is “a very low-risk activity for the criminal”.

America, France and Germany have suffered similar sharp rises in crime to Britain since the 1960s but have tackled them more effectively, the report says. British police have failed to focus on prevention of crime and zero tolerance of low-level disorder and antisocial behaviour, it claims.

The rise in crime in the UK is “so spectacular” it is “difficult to comprehend”, the report argues. Home Office claims that crime in Britain is falling and at “historically low levels” are false: the country is now “a seriously crime-afflicted and disintegrating society”.

The damning and controversial study from Civitas, the right-of-centre think tank, is bound to provoke criticism from British police forces.

It cites official figures that show crime rising steadily over 40 years. The report says:

Wait 'til the muzzies start "acting-up"; that'll be a true measure of what the "bobbies" can handle.

The rise in crime is because it's very easy to get away with. Without guns people defenseless targets in their own homes. The crime laws are toughest on the people, often times if you injure an intruder in your house it can get you into more trouble him. It's bass ackwards, I have a feeling even most Democrats in this country would realize that.

Maybe we should advertise that crime in the UK is “a very low-risk activity for the criminal” and maybe our criminals will get the hint and leave.

And now for the obligatory messages to annoy the UK Freepers, "Ohs Nose, Islam is taking over and they have no guns...and ahhhhhh the EU is the 4th Reich too."

BTW, why don't we give the UK members their own forum besides the out of the way one at http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profiles?location=28?

Yep, they always avoid talking about the obvious, the ban on firearms, and now knifes, plus the ban on being able to defend oneself in England is what is driving the crime rate up. You can't tell criminals that it is ok to hurt people and that you won't be hurt back and expect crime to go down or even stay static. Plus you have to give the people the means to defend themselves. Brits,IMO, are stupid, at least the law makers are.

Unfortunately for our friends in the UK crime is even worse than their statistics tell. The police in many areas use a strange accounting for crime statistics.

For example if a man rapes and murders 6 women in a crime spree that should be 12 crimes, right? No its all one crime under their accounting system. Apparently some US cities once used this system as well until the FBI pressured them to use a more logical system.

Heck, even if you DO have a legally owned gun in England, it is against the law to use force to protect your own life!

A pity that simply allowing citizens to freely own firearms to defend themselves will never enter the public dialogue in the U.K.

Instead they will beat their breasts about how awful things are, and then probably pour themselves a nice cuppa -- and maybe allow themselves a nice digestive biscuit.

A few hundred pounds on a much nicer American export such as a Colt Anaconda:

and a bit of time at the range would do wonders to reduce the crime rate, particularly home invasions.

The UK guys and gals are still better than the Iraqi surrender monkeys, but the latter are gaining.

To me, weapons in my home is no different from the military having weapons in combat.

News alert!!! Britain shuts down all weapons acquisitions for its military; and confiscates and destroys its Army, Marine and Airforce weapons ystems so as not to piss off the enemy.

Developing... News at 11...

Europe has crime? Impossible.

They have achieved a worker's wonderland. Gumdrops fall from the sky and ATMs shoot cash at you in the hope that you just might need it. If you fall down and skin your knee, the government will make sure that you will be paid a living wage while you recover. OH! They have an efficient method of transportation, too.

Crime, by default, should not exist.

I reject this article as it contridicts the Utopian ideal that Europe has sold me.

Oh yes, they realize it... and applaud it.
Things spiral out of control until the people either do something about it themselves or they give the government permission to do it for them.
No socialist poli-critter in his or her even remotely right (a-hm... I meant "left"!!)mind would even concider allowing the public to "defend" or "protect" themselves.
So... more crime leads to more cops, who spend even more time behind desks or dealing with unarmed trouble makers, IE. the citizens they are supposed to be protecting. Much easier to arrest a law-abiding civilian with a beef about the government and a big mouth than one of those criminals that may very well be armed.
A copper could get hurt that way. Heaven forbid.
